I took the diff and transmission out of the datto today, what would be a good diff to shorten to fit, was thinking of just using my 9" out of the XE but thought I may aswell ask what others have used in the past before I chew up the 9"

Thanks champ, now that I know 'how' I'm going to mount the engine that problem will be shelved until I can find a decent c10 auto to start mount stuff up properly. Currently am looking a 3500-4500 ish stallies and thats the hardest part of getting the bits together.

dat383, I should really remember 'google FIRST, then post' *smacks head* first google result with 'engine plate' was this nugget http://www.campbellenterprises.com/motorplates.htm where did you get yours from and I assume it was a while ago now that you got yours but how much did it set you back?

I know what your saying there with the defile thing, but its a cheap donor car and its more just a hobby thing, not trying to pizz anyone off by posting about it on a dat forum. The intention is definatly just for track and burnout, havent got the cash to go registered.

I know its not new ground, cause I've asked for examples of others that have already done this, by far the best way to hit the ground running. The only new ground Im breaking is 'Ive' never done this before and looks like its going to be a fun project and keep me out of the wifes hair.

I assue that front plate then was something that you made your self? is that a standard mod in these things or was it something you came up with yourself? never seen one before. But if it means u can get away with engine mounts/modifications then its a damn good idea!

dat383, what sort of clearances where your biggest problem? I noticed you have a front brace on the engine, is that because you had to move it forward a fair way to prevent cutting the firewall?

lol, stop teasing with what 'could be'. If I can get it in then I'll have plenty of vids to put up myself. More pics of builds would be better or write ups on transmition swaps, diff swaps, engine swaps etc.

But damnnn that drag datto hammers!

Thanks man thats great write up on the steering, I havent actualy measured it up yet, too damn cold out there!, so this weekend transmittions are comming out an weather permitting I'll be starting to do the geometry. The 120 is an auto and I'm led to believe that that means it has a larger tunnel and with a little luck should fit the toploader or c6 (still havent made up my mind).

I've got most of the stuff from your list on mine. Have you got any pics of how yours turned out? or progress picys?

I'm after a rack and pinion setup, something that would be a close fit to a 120Y. I'm in Canberra but am happy to pay postage from most places.

Cheers,
Mik.

The reason I went with the 120Y is acutally kinda funny, its been a while since the topic had been mentioned of even trying a conversion like this, and the tow driver across the road had overheard me months back talking about it. Unknown to me he had since been on the lookout, and only last week found a suitable straight auto 120Y (or similar small car) so he dropped it off for me, for next to nothing. So in short Im going to use the 120 cause it cost me nothing to aquire. But im kinda fond of the 120Y, the name rings alarm bells when you hear it for all sorts of reasons and its a nice lil car to boot.
