While it might be better to dyno in a higher gear, for longer runs and more time to look for tuning faults, I doubt that you would get higher figures in a higher gear. A lower gear would exaggerate the flywheel power figures, because the gearbox is multiplying the power/torque figures in the lower than 1:1 ratio gears.

The same will go for smaller wheels, or a higher ratio in your diff. These are all things that should be entered into the dyno before taking the readings, so that it can compensate for the multiplication/division of power figures.

Anything is possible, even these figures from an A12, but I will remain sceptical until proven otherwise with another dyno run on a different machine. Obviously in the same gear with the same tyres etc...

Yes, yes, welcome, we've grown the ZA members quite a lot in the past few months.

36 Weber gives good power, and should be on par with the SU's in most respects. However you might notice a slight improvement in fuel consumption with the SU's even when you trap it a bit down the coast between Camp's and Landadno... very nice sights, and lovely twisties...

No, I just lived there for 7 odd years, moved back to Petoors about a year ago.

Have a look at Rowland Manifolds they make all kinds of manifolds for all kinds of cars. I wonder if they would make a manifold for the A series to bolt on a set of throttles from the 20V Toyotas...? That'd give you plenty more power, and electronic control.

What I do notice though, is that they make a set of "Toyota Throttle Bodies to DCOE" intakes. Maybe that's an option...

You'd want to ask dat383 about that, he knows a lot about V8's in 1200's.

Or you can do it the hard way... Toyota k40 gearbox swap... the hard way.

All jokes aside, 3ROTOR will be the one to ask about gearbox swop's, he seems to be very knowledgeable about the gearboxen.

Hey datodude,I'm running coolant and the previous owner did aswell and i cleaned all the ports when I rebuilt the engine. I hope I can find and solve the problem because my gx is suffering and i know that the double valve-springs is softer as a result of the heat, because it can not rev more than 5600rpm.

Might sound stupid, but is your timing also correct, timing can also cause an engine to run hotter than normal. Might also point to why your car won't rev past 5600, which is very low.

I learnt a trick with thermostats. It pays to drill a hole in the upper part of it, a small hole. That is insurance against a sticking unit. If that happens, you will run warm, but not boiling hot.

We also do this, drill a small hole on the rim/flange of the thermo, about 3mm. It pre-curcilates the water, so that you have less thermal shock when the thermo opens. Some production thermo already has a little hole with a little piece of copper rod through it pinched on both sides.

I wouldn't be able to say exactly, but I've heard numerous rumors that the local 5spd boxes are a little frail compared to the 4spd ones. So if the internals fit, it should be an improvement.

Have you considered fitting a stronger Toy box or one tonner box with adapter plate?
