I was lucky enough to see the Targa "party tape" the other week and there was a quick clip of GTR hitting a cameraman. Though I thought it was a grey R34...were there more than one cameraman vs car incident in this years rally.

When adding rose joints it is important to retain the original pivot point of the mount you are replacing. If you use a rose joint on the caster rod you really should remove the original front mount and fabricate a new mount further forward. To keep things a little more simple I use spherical bearings to enable the use of the factory front mount. By using the rose joints and normally pulling the strut forward for more caster leaves you with a short caster rod swinging in altered geometry which can bind and snap.........

I think that car is a South African market car, SA got a lot of odd cars that were assembed there. I have seen a few 4 cylinder Datsun models that were factory fitted with 6 cylinder L series as well. With the politcal sanctions lifted off South Africa, more of these cars are coming to light. It is probably more rare than a JDM Excellent.

Despite my long time Datsun obsession, if I was going to drive around the world, I'd do it in a Range Rover, grunty, reliable, not too cramped, handles anything you throw at it and they are sold everywhere so parts and repairs aren't a problem.

The bearings are NSK brand made specially for Nissan, you will have to order them from a Nissan dealer...

Thats a good point about what model car it is derived from....I know of several 120Y SSS's that were stripped and rebuilt into the more desirable 1200 shell. I have also seen a SSS coupe and ute that have been created from genuine cars....The Escort scenario is a funny one isn't it, the famous "780" cars have all been reshelled , reengined, newer style cages and fresh suspension and they are still the "genuine " item....

I have a pic of the original airbox some where...I'll dig it out. I have built a replica of it for my GX as the Datsun Works manifold has different spacing between the carbs compared to the Marwood developed SSS one.

It appears to be a nice car and reshelling SSS's isn''t uncommon as the Kiwi assembled were bad for rusting away before your eyes and many were badly damaged in crashes by overenthusiastic drivers..The bonnet squares do look a little small . The air cleaners look like Lynx or Ramflos and the early cars did have 2 small round air cleaners until the GX style airbox was developed. One of the 1200 club members is chasing this one hard so I hope it comes to Wellington. As for the price I am pleasantly surprised at the steady climb in value for the 1200s over here. I was recently offered NZ $10,000 for my unfinished{almost} GX coupe !!!
