120fly, I think while your'e thanking people thank the race director Tim Schenken for deploying the safety car for Jason Richards lose into the chase sandtrap to allow the Toll car to make up 8 seconds and then not send out the safety car 2 laps from the end which would have had the race finish under yellows and not given the Toll car a chance to pass Lowndes for the win!!!!. The loss of Mark Porter is extremely sad too....he was a top guy always approachable and earnt his place at the top level of motorsport. His triple rotor RX7 was a weapon and one of my all time favorite cars and he took it to Japan and beat the best there in his Kiwi built car. Paul Radisich was also very lucky this weekend not to get killed in a very scarey accident. I though it was a great race , plenty of drama and excitment and I just wish I had been there for it.

Hey Ian, I actually missed the Great Race start cause I had a kart race but raced home after it got hit and it turned into a pig. I have researched those SCCA and IMSA cars and have had a number of conversations with the former Nismo US boss who helped fill in the gaps.

Have fun, I've been to the Mountain a few times myself and I'm quietly hoping for a Ford win too. it's long overdue.

Well there is a Gary Dares running a 383 Chev powered 1200 Sedan at Powercruise 7. I have posted a couple of pics in the gallery, some other cleverer bugger can link them to this subject. It looks like a nice car, but I would have built it a little lower , my taste though! As for his theory on vehicle dynamics he needs to reread his mechanics textbooks.....the front spoiler will help direct air around the front of the car and stop air running under the car and unsettling it.The rear spoilers is really only for looks and will only start to work at higher speeds. The flares will be helping redirect air as well. As a power man I am sure he has checked out the wheel wells of the top doorslammers and funnies to see how subtle changes make speed.

It looks like a late model emmissions carb off of a late black top A15 from a Vanette. I would like to be more sure but I always rip the buggers straight off and throw them away...

For you experts out there...it is a NZ market only SSS console. The VDO tacho was a factory approved fitment in these cars. With only 800 made and most pressed into motorsport service, most of these console set ups did'nt survive.

i know of 3 in the area around me, mine it was originally red, another red one and a black one all coupes. I have been trying for at least 4 yrs to track down the black one. It was once for sale in a car yard advertised as a SSS coupe!! I found my GX by accident after it was dragged out of storage due to the rent not being paid. A good mate was working next door and wandered over to have a look. The owner was in a bind and wanted the car, stripped to the shell to go to a good home. After a short talk the car was mine.He gave it to me........it was missing it's motor and trans but otherwise it was all there in a pile of boxes. I didn't realise at first what it was until he produced the unique grille and dashboard insert. It had a standard bus steering wheel but again as luck would have it found the correct wheel hanging in a garage a 5 hr drive away.I worked out the other day it has been nearly 2 yrs since I touched it. All I have to do is drop the engine back in it and it's done. Too many projects not enough time !!!

When I heard the news I was truly shocked and numbed...Steve Irwin was a great guy too but Pete was a true legend and a fantastic ambassador for Motorsport and Australia. I find a little ironic that he died driving a replica of a Ford Daytona Coupe. I haven't talked to him for years but he was a top bloke and will be missed. His influence on so many young people creating the dream of motorsport glory will be hard to replace. And remember there is a 1200 Datsun link....his first Bathurst drive was to be in a 1200 sedan but he was convinced to pedal a Holden by the wily Harry Firth and the rest is history..
