I forgot to add that the name of the folder is "1200 Sales Brochures". I just don't know where I get these catchy titles!! Has any one else got any 1200 sales stuff to add? Most of us
were too young to see a brand spanking new Datto, my 1200 fixation was caused from seeing them all lowered out and flared screaming around a race circuit. Now as I'm older and after years
of modifying them my current project is a "racetoration"...everyone my age has seen modified ones but a stock looking 1200 is a rarity, fitted with all the factory race parts of course,
now thats different. How about a personalised plate SLEEPA ?

I wound up the old scanner and have posted some more pics. They are of a US 1200 sales brochure. The sales hype will make you smile along with what was offered as optional extras. The US
cars had features we never saw downunder and the 2 door sedan was never officially sold here though a few were privately imported. I to would love a time machine though in a way we are
all driving them...1200s were built tough and made simple ,all that you really need in a car. It's hard to build a car with character but Datsun really had their fingers on the pulse in
the early 70's with the 1200. 510 (1600) and the 240Z all of them considered classics in most car circles.

Hey Leosnake,
Hows things? Is the new project nearly finished? The GX is getting close now. Any Datto stuff is good to read, I have a few US Nissan Competition catalogues with similar 1200 stuff
as well as a BRE brochure which is mainly 510 stuff but they offered a few things for the 1200s. I've got some sales brochures I might post later too.

Hey Guys,
As I promised I've added some more photos. They are of a Japanese performance parts catalogue from Nissan for the 1200s released in 1977. Most of the parts are now obsolete but it gives you
a good idea of how well catered for the 1200 racers were. The scans are the best I could do. If I sharpen them up any more the print disappears. The catalogue also includes wiring diagrams
etc for the ignition units. If there is enough interest I'll scan some other books I have from Japan on race preparation for the 1200s. I have one in English and one in Japanese. If you read
these pages carefully there is a lot of interesting information regarding sizes, capacities and clutch clamping pressures.
The photos are in the Performance Parts Catalogue folder.

Hey John,
Should you ever want to give that tach a good home I would be a fine adoptive parent, I've been looking for one of those for over 15 years. I'm building a B110 1400GX
with all the Datsun Competition gear, alloy sump, radiator, oil cooler, twin Solexs etc etc. So should you ever want to sell, name your price.

Welcome to the wonderful world of unleaded petrol guys. NZ has been suffering from this crap fuel for a couple of years now and it's really bad for older engines. The additive in NZ is
called Valvemaster and its soots engines up really badly. Toluene has been around for years and I've used it for bumping the octane level for racing. I would'nt recomend any more than 5% as
you could end up with a holed piston, a friend yrs ago tried it and mixed it 20% instead of 20 to 1 and ended up with his pistons melted into the sump!!! The new fuel also goes off faster
with it becoming useless within 3 mths. the fuel really eats old rubber so upgrade your fuel lines to fuel injection spec to save any probs like fires or something. The good news is that
here in NZ BP have released a higher octane petrol for older and performance cars. It only took years of moaning to get it. Aussie has a hi octane choice from Shell don't they??

In my experience the A series 5 speeds are stronger than the 4 speeds. The original 4 spd 1200 box is very weak and is prone to losing teeth easily. The 120Y models onwards
had wider teeth and were stronger. The trick over here years ago was to fit 180B gear clusters into the 4 speed housings. I've never done it myself but understand it was a
straightforward conversion.

The difference in body height is in the roof lines. The coupe's screen is laid back more than the sedan , pick up and stationwagon. The front guards interchange throughout
the model range.
If any one is after some fibreglass front guards for a 1200 there are a pair for auction on eBay right now.

One story I heard years ago was that the 1200s were fitted with optional air conditioning as a way around getting an oil cooler homologated into production racing. The heat exchanger
core was removed and replaced with the oil cooler in the front grille panel the one with the small square punched in it and the larger square around it that was partially cut out. As
they were both forms of radiators/coolers they were allowed. Another clever trick that was pulled in the old days involved an intricate series of copper pipes installed into the fuel
tank of a 1200 coupe. Diff oil coolers weren't allowed and the 1200 diffs aren't the strongest so a Holley Blue fuel pump was hooked up to pump the diff oil though the copper coil in the
tank using the fuel to cool the oil. Once the diff coolers were allowed the tank was removed until a nosy young bastard (me) found it in a rather embaressed racer's workshop years later.

The Pintara was an Aussie only model, it was a 4 cylinder Skyline I think. The Skyline wasn't sold in the States either was it? I had to smile when I read your letter, you are a
little confused the V8 supercar you refer to is a Pantera made by De Tomaso in Italy and sold through Ford dealerships in the States. The engines were 351 cu in Clevelands. My
girlfriend has an Aussie built GT Falcon with the same motor in fact the electronic distributor came out of a Pantera in Texas. In her car with a 4 speed Toploader, 140mph is
acheivable but only on closed roads officer!!
