Keeping your car all Nissan is always nice but not cheap. The Borg Warner diff is a strong one, The supercharged V8 Datto runs one!! LSDs are easy to find all the Falcon utes seem to have
them. They are found under almost all the Falcons and some Commodores, Valiants had them to as did the Aussie market Skylines and Pintaras (I believe). Get your tape measure out and go
hunting. The diff has a long and short axle so with a bit of mixing and matching you may find you can save some dollars on the axle shortening. Also the diffs came with optional disc brakes
which is a bonus. I built a Rover V8 powered MGB a few years back and fitted a Borg Warner to that. It has been rolled, bowled and arseholed and the diff is still going strong. I found out
completely by accident that the axle splines of the MG were the same as the Aussie Borg Warner so the car ended up with its original axles and brakes and no one is any the wiser. The MGB
bolt pattern is the same as Datsun/Nissan as well. They may be a solution to the short axle problem.

Glad you like them, Datsuns look so good with a set of fat feet and a good lowering. Tony Marsh's car was trick in as much that that the floorpan was lifted up to be level with the top of
the door sill. The 2 bulges on the bonnet are to clear the strut tops! Pikey's car is a completely different weapon and went to Japan with an exchange student a couple of years back. The
Marsh coupe is still here in NZ and possibly hidden away here in Wellington. The red, white and blue car ran a Marsh built A12 1298 and then got Marsh built CA1600 (240HP). The red & white
car originally raced in the States as a 1200 but once it got here it had a 10A rotary fitted to run in the OSCA series down south. I bought the car from a guy in Timaru and fitted a
peripheral ported 12A 285HP. The bang photo is that car, The engine was a 2 hr old Mazda factory built PP12A which cost me $9000 and after that most parts were junk including the close ratio
gearbox and diff which cracked with the huge shock it got through it. I never knew the cars history until recently and I'm seriously thinking of returning it to Nissan power... I'm on the
trail of a twin cam A series head that has been stashed away here so if I get that I might just have to build another engine for it.

Hi Guys,
I finally got the photos of my mates V8 1200 coupe posted. It is a real car they are not faked photos. It has been running around my town for nearly 6 mths now. These photos were taken a
couple of days before it fired up. You will notice it has a pretty solid rollcage and bracing set up in the engine bay to stop the poor thing ripping itself to bits. The Chev has all the
good gear and on the dyno running rich produced 460 HP at the wheels!! It runs a 4 speed Super T10 gearbox throught to a narrowed Ford diff. The brakes on the front are now Series 5 Rx7
discs and 4 pot calipers. The rear has discs and twin calipers one set for the handbrake. Hydraulic handbrakes are illegal in NZ but the rule is that the handbrake must be operated by a
cable...it is the original cable is shortened and pulls a lever which activates a master cylinder, so far we've got away with it. At first it had a locked diff with a spool but broke 2 axles
before a LSD was put in it. I'm building a front crank support at the moment after a big rev to impress some girlies in tight shorts snapped the crank! This car is awesomely fast but would
be lethal in the wrong hands.

I've finally got around to posting some 1200 pictures. They are all mine taken over the last 15 or so years. I added a folder called Kiwi Race Cars and added some modified
engine pics to the engines folder. Over the Xmas break I'll dig up some more Datsun stuff and post it soon.

The Japanese utes site is in Japanese (surprise surprise) but is still pretty easy to navigate. The site is for Matsuoka Motorsports a long time Datsun performance
parts manufacturer. They even produced a diecast Matsuoka 1200 coupe racecar!! They still stock A series parts so if you can read Japanese you are in luck.
The address is http://www.matsuoka-m.com
The photos can be found by clicking on the words directly under the dancing 1200 icon.

Hey ute fans, I finally had a go and loaded some photos. Easy as. The photos came off a Japanese site and were for a best ute contest I think. I can't read Japanese so I know
no other details but they are cool looking vehicles.

To add to the dash trivia the console mounted tacho in the NZ SSS was an Aussie made VDO unit. The clock in the US 1200s was an optional extra not offered in Australasia as far as I'm aware.
The Japanese GX Coupes had the clock mounted in the gearbox console.
Hey Teretonga, I'm a little curious about your rear end set up (ow err). The A arm set up can work really well in a car if you mount them correctly. My current race car has one and it allows
the rear roll centre to be right in the centre of the diff mounted pivot. The important thing to remember with the front mounts is to keep them on the same centre line as the front spring eyes
ideally drill out the original bolts and run longer ones right though to pick up the front mounts off the A arm. Now the best trick of all is the way you mount the rear diff mount. The problem
as you have found is that with a fixed rear mount the A arm twists the diff housing turning it into a giant sway bar eventually ripping itself off. Mount the rear rod end in a thick walled
piece of tube , then make another tube that allows the smaller tube to slide happily in side it ( I have put Delrin bushes in mine). Now build your A arm around these bits with 2 arms either
side forming 2 vees. I saw this method about 10 years ago under a US Trans Am Mustang and thought it was a brilliantly simple solution to a common problem. The sliding action stops the binding
up as the suspension moves. Remember the A arm is only there to stop the diff moving sideways, 2 top links to stop axle tramp will help as well, I can assure that it works very well as I
fitted at least 6 of these set ups to cars.

The Japanese sourced Sunny utes around here have A14s and A15s. The interiors are done in grey or brown but everything slots in the 1200 coupes as would be expected . I grabbed the
interior trim out of one for mine. The utes are also available in a longer wheelbase from the cute short wheelbase ones more commonly found. They also run 13" rims finally. I have been
chasing a rumour that the Nissan tooling for coupes and sedans is in South America and is still being used to produce cars. It would be nice it it all turns out to be true. New panels for
everyone.

Some of the 70's slogans were, "Datsun we are Driven", "Use Genuine Datsun Parts". Nissan also used a cartoon dog an old english sheepdog, called Danny Datsun. He appeared in
overalls in several stickers and posters. I also have him in a Datsun jigsaw!! The States had some cool Nissan/Datsun racing decals in red, white and blue. "You can do it in a
Datsun" was another slogan sticker. Can anyone else remember any?

1200 SSS badges were unique to to the NZ model The 1200 and SSS are seperate. They have their own part number but have been unavailable for many years. The 120y SSS had
similar badges. There are still plenty of SSS badges on Bluebirds etc if you would be interested in some of those.
