yeh I know it depends on engine load and revvs. It seems I might be in the ballpark for what sort of timing I need. I am running 35 peak at around 4000-4500. Maybe I will back off the idle to 17 from 25 and see how it goes.

Hey guys,
I am just trying to get an Idea of what sort of timing I should be running on an A-series. Also what I should be running for startup timing. 10 degrees sounds right? I have a mild cam (mystery) mild portwork, a14 block, a15 head.

I am not after precise timing values, those can only be tuned while on a dyno or driving. Just some settings that people are running to get some starting figures to work from.

Cheers -Liam

Hey guys,
I have gone to EFI and am having trouble getting the enrichment settings for warmup. I just need some ballpark figures as to how much the little A-series needs to warmup. I have done a few mods to it so I know mine will be different to everyone elses. But I need somewhere close to start. At the moment I am using the factory warmup that comes on Megasquirt but it is very hit and miss. and as soon as it fires the temp changes. this makes for difficult tuning.

Cheers -Liam

Yeh carbs are the reason for me going EFI. I got twin SU's after the A12 I had with the same setup. It worked mint!!! I got 200km/h out of the A12! I was looking for better results with my A14, little did I know SU's are difficult to get parts to tune them and then it's hit and miss with needles. Bugger that!!!! Since I had the quad throttlebodies on I haven't looked back. Even when I didn't know that they don't produce much vacuum and even when I was getting 14L/100km I didn't look back. Now I'm running Megasquirt and my economy and power are up and throttle response is GREAT!!! EFI For The Win!!!!!

Tuning on the fly is so much easier, oh its running a little lean on that corner..... adjust there and fixed!!! Easy.

I am not a tech who has done a course, nor am I a rich mofo who can buy the planet with daddy's money. I have done it the hard way all myself except my manifold which a mate whipped up for me. EFI is much easier to learn than mechanics, there's no hit and miss with electronics, only precise measurements that work time and time again.

As for the EFI A-series, Mine sounds mint with quad throttlebodies!!

Now theres something I can vouch for. Throttle response......AWESOME!!!!! cant beat quad throttlebodies and fully electronic ignition!!!!

It is about $200 American. I payed about $450 for mine here in Aus. I bought it from www.diyautotune.com
I highly recommend buying the megastim to aid in construction. It took me 6 hours straight to construct. I am average at soldering, so I found it quite fun. It is easy to connect if you have the patience to read the site and are willing to learn and understand the instructions. It took me 2 weeks to get the hang of it, I use it in my daily driver so I had it in on the weekend and was tuning it on the way to work through the week. 3 months on I am quite adept at the software.

If you can do basic wiring then MS is relatively easy, Just as long as you read the instructions on the site, also you need to make sure that you set the MS up for the way you are using. Dizzy setup, Trigger wheel, EDIS. I am using EDIS, I bought the kit from ebay for about $150 AUS. Wired it up as it says on the site. But if you arent electrically minded then you will find it hard!!

The software that I use is Tunerstudio from http://www.efianalytics.com/TunerStudio/
I found it much easier to use with the megasquirt.

No No. I use TPS for the main table. Any TPS setup has resolution issues at low throttle openings. I'm not saying that it doesn't work, just that I use the MAP sensor to provide more control over the fuelling at low throttle openings. MAP generally provides better fuelling resolution over all throttle openings than TPS. But with Quads the there is barely any MAP only between 1-10% throttle.

Hope this clears things up.

I do gotta say that EFI + Turbo = HEADACHE. EFI + Quad Throttles + Turbo = Loony bin.
Carbs + Turbs = Easier.

Get my drift. Not to mention setting up a Timing table for electronic ign. I would hate to set one up and detonate it!

Im gunna stay with NA for my injection setup. Quad throttles are hard enough to setup to begin with!!

I have yamaha r6 quad throtts on my A14. Its pretty wild, and like jmac said, you can't use TPS sensor for fuelling....Well you can. Just you will have VERY poor fuel economy, because of the lack of vacuum it reads 100% after 10% throttle. I got around this with Megasquirt and running a TPS vs MAP setup. It uses TPS for the main table and the MAP for little throttle openings. It works great and I have more fuel economy and POWER!!!, than I have ever had before. I was previously running with a Haltech f7 computer without luck tuning. The f7 couldnt get correct vacuum from the MAP sensor so I had to buy the megasquirt.

Also on another note I am running a EDIS ignition setup with the megasquirt. It involves welding a wheel to the front pulley and mounting a sensor. I am running with no dizzy!!! perfect timing and injection every time. I am running commodore coolant and air sensors as they are easier to calibrate.

With regard to jmac and megasquirt, it is coming out with MSIII sequential injection and onboard datalogging!!! not bad for a DIY ECU.

Highly recommended Megasquirt II!!! it may sound like a porn star. But it is a very capable ECU. And with the promise of megasquirt 3, it will be able to compete with the big boys. Yes MS is hard to tune, but it teaches you alot about EFI. Not everything is supposed to program like a Playstation.
