I have seen a few TV shows on oils. There have been many studies done using New York City taxi cabs. They have used all types of oils from parafin base, petrolium based and synthetics and the most determed factor on oil is that nothing is better than just plain changing your oil at the proper times. Expensive oils are a yuppie thing like perrier is expensive water. Mareo

I have had that problem on a Sentra E16 motor. What was going on was that I used chrome rings on old cylinders. They had been honed properly and all but for some unknown rason, they didn't seat correctly. I had to take them out and use regular rings instead of the chrome rings. Yhis may not be your problem, though. Also check out the PCV valve, they sometimes get to where they still work but not properly and need to be replaced. Good Luck with it and keep us posted as to what you do to it to rectify the problem. Mareo

A B210 is a 1974 to 1978 120Y with left hand drive, more or less. Mareo PS It is the American name for your 120Y.

The small amout of movement from your fabricared mount probably will not cause any malfunction to yout tranny but will transfer vibration to the body. I feel the engine vibration a lot with the dogleg trans but the extra gas milage is worth the vibration. I can get up to 65 MPG. I have an A14 from a 1981 210 that I shaved the head a bit to up the compression a little. I use 185 60 14 tires on the rear and it will top out at around 125 MPH. It is an excellent combination except for the vibration. Mareo

Same in America, nzdatman. I have never seen a close ratio 4-speed or 5-speed on the street in a Datsun.

The dogleg tranny has reverse where your 1st gear is located and 1st gear is like where a 3-speed trans is located like below. R 2 4 __ 1 3 5 There are basically two size splines on the A-series clutches. Clutches on most 5-speeds are usually the same and the 4-speeds are usually the same, but 4-speeds are different from 5-speeds. At least that is basically how it is in USA.

I am not sure where you get your information but personally, I have never seen a Datsun 5-speed that had a 1:1 5th gear ratio. "5th gear is normally 1to1 ratio providing closer gear ratios" I am on my third dogleg tranny now and all have been overdrive. I have had a few friends that had the dogleg tranny and all of them have been overdrive as well. Mareo

I've had that problem before. What I learned most from it is to not take the pumps apart without new replacement gaskets. If any air leaks into the inside of the pump, it will lost prime and then cavitate. Replace your gaskets or better yet, replace the oil pump. Mareo

Thanks for your comments, Boltman. You forgot about the real difference between the Sedan and the Coupe. The seats in the Sedan were much more comfortable. I have spent weeks at a time in my sedan on the road and never felt tired out or beat up. The coupe seats are thinner and the metal framework gets pertty uncomfortable on long trips. I drove at least 10 round trips from East Tennessee to the San Francisco Bay area in my sedan and it never made me hurt or have sore spots. I can not say the same for the coupe seats. When I bought my first Datsun in 1972, I had a 1965 Pontiac GTO with 6.5 liter 389 CI motor with three duces. It had comfortable seats and I thought nothing of getting out of the GTO and into the 1200. It was like having a comfortable little go-cart that didn't like gas stations as a toy. Mareo
