I recently fitted mags to my 1978 120Y and rim choice was affected by offset. Most rims I tried had an offset of 105mm (105mm between the INSIDE edge of the rim and the back of the rim 'face'. Hopefully you know what I mean. This was too much and I had problems clearing the strut. However, a rim offset of 90mm went in perfectly. No spacers or any modifications at all. Also, you may need to ensure the diameter of the centre hole is not less than 80mm. That's just what I encountered. Maybe the 1200 is radically different, but I guess you can never have too much info... Good Luck !!

You've pretty well answered your own question... it sounds like it is fuel... this is common to many older cars running rich, especially when cold... make sure the engine is tuned correctly and you may see a drop in the amount of soot.
Also, compresion may also be a factor.

I'm pretty sure most auto parts stored have access to them.. Also Battery World (I believe they are a national chain) carries them.

It does lift a small amount of oxidised paint off, however it isn't really to be used for that purpose... I find the best thing for oxidised paint that isn't too harsh is Meguairs' Paint Cleaner....

There are a couple of variations to Clay Magic... But they all do the same thing...they remove impurities from the paint surface (road grime, oversprays, dirt, etc) and in about half the time as a cut/ polish and half the heartache... I swear by the stuff... the best procedure is: Wash and shampoo the car... rinse and leave the water on... rub the clay over the car, chamois the water off, put on a polish and then a wax.

Another update !!! it seems it is easy to get caught out with the Stanza SSS rims... or rather the 120Y hub...It appears that there were two types of hub used with 120Y's. On earlier models, the diameter of the part where the wheel locates and rests on is smaller that later models, that and anoffset of 105mm from rim face to the rear edge was 105mm. Consequently, the SSS rims didn't really fit unless you used spacers with longer studs, or you machined the rims... so Here is the solution: find a set of rims with an offset of 90mm and a hub hole diameter of 80mm. Doing so will allow you to fit the rim on without ANY problems an no requirements for spacers, etc. An example in Australia of a rims that meets these requirements is the "Spitfire" at performancewheels.com.au (see Classic section) I'll post the pics once fitted to the car.

Thanks Guys...
I got the rims on Saturday (a full set of 5!!) and have had them polished ready for the tyres... I fitted the rim only to the car and everything was fine. There was about 5mm between the inside edge of the rim and the strut. My only concern now is whether or not the 185/60 tyre rubs on the strut. If so, I'll go to a 165/65R13 as it affects the speedo by only 1.5% as per the calculator I found elsewhere on the site. I'll keep you posted and post pics when finished.

My first car was a '77 120Y sedan and I absolutely loved it. The first thing I bought for it was an LED spoiler for it. I've gone to a Turbo XR2 Tickford Capri, but always regretted getting rid of the Y. So I decided to relive my childhood and bought another Y; a 1978 that now has a rebuilt A14, 32/36DGV, 5 Speed, customised boot panels, custom interior incl new carpet and door panels to house speakers. As of this weekend it now also has Quartz Halogen headlights and rims from a Stanza SSS fitted... In other words, the Datsun 120Y I always wanted.
