Forgot to update this one:
The nut seemed to be adjusted correctly - finger tight plus 1/6 turn. I removed the nut and carefully reinstalled it to just finger tight. The throttle still sticks unfortunately. In fact the nut might even be a bit loose - I can move it a bit with my fingers, but it's locked down with the tab so hopefully it stays put.
I ended up fitting a second spring and it's ok now, but didn't really find the cause.

Yep that coupe looks fantastic, I've been salivating over that. Apparently it's unregisterable in Japan, but you'd have to at least double the price to get it to oz.

Hey haydng,
Did you end up getting the Hitachis serviced? I have a complete set I'd like to get rebuilt.

I should have mentioned; it's a near new 32/36 weber, and the issue developed after about 500kms.

Yes so it looks like the throttle link on the carb is stiff. I lubricated it and it helped a little. Needs improvement though. Maybe a second or heavier return spring, or loosen the nut?

My throttle has started sticking. If I back of the accelerator, the say when shifting, car sticks at about 2000-3000 rpm. I can get it to return if I quickly press then release the accelerator pedal.
So I guess it's either the carby or the cable. The carby is quite new with about 500kms on it.
Any thought on how to troubleshoot this?
