Hey fellas.
I've been looking to build up my tool box, but i've just been overwhelmed with all the options available.
Basically i'm looking at the occasional job in the backyard sorta thing, nothing professional mechanic level. But I want tools i can rely on for years and years and years.
Atm I have a 1/2" metric Kincrome socket set, i think about 8mm to 32mm i believe. And some AF and metric spanners, 6 through to 14mm i believe off the top off my head, and the equivalent in imperial.
I'm really looking to get a full set of metric spanners, off different types, (offsets, flat), and invest in a full set of ratchet gear spanners, probably only for metric though.
So anyways guys, what brands can I rely on, without having to sell my kidneys to pay for.
Cheers :D

I remember once when i was talking to a guy behind the parts counter at Auto-One, and he's like "eventually one of the young blokes here is gonna get asked for some points by a customer, and he's going to show them some centre punches"
haha.

hehe it takes more than that to get my panties in a twist :D :D
speaking of distributors though, whenever it's wet at night (like rain, or driving near the ocean when the wind blows mist across the land), i get some misfiring problems. Is that most likely a problem with my distributor arching?
Anyways, haha, I bought my first datsun 1200. And when i was playing around in the driveway I noticed that i could put my gearbox into 'fifth' position. Now i knew that the stock gearbox should be 4 speed. So i thought nothing of it and just assumed it was just some sort of 'phantom' gear. And i never had the nerve to try it out on the road because i had no idea what it would do (better to be a safe fool than a dangerous adventurer sometimes :D)
But now i think in my cars past a previous owner has upgraded it to a 5 speed.
So assuming i'm wrong and it's still 4 speed. There's nothing that can go wrong if i put it into it's '5th' position?
Cheers.
I'll try it out tomorrow. It's too late tonight.

Hey there fellow datsun owners,
I'm using a daily drive datsun 1200 1980 ute atm. And I was just really curious, what happens if I put my 4-speed gearbox into '5th' while driving. I've never attempted it before because I had no idea if i would do nothing at all, or damage my trans.
Just curious, Thanks in advance :D
NOTE: I checked it, i have 5 gears! woot.
