I am part of the way through putting a series 5 13b turbo into my 1200 ute.

The main thing that draws me towards it's use is the ease of installation (next easiest thing to transplant other an an a-series engine), it's fuel effeciency, the ride/drive quality, and the fact that massive power gains come quite cheaply.

Also, the engine package (engine, g/b, loom, ecu) only cost me AU$1700!

Mine will be a total sleeper for a few years, but one day I may decide to do some real work to the exterior.

I did have a 12a 6-port ready to go into the ute, but canned it pretty quick. I figured if I was going to go to the trouble of a completely different engine, I might as well go for fuel injection as well!

P.S. Just on a side note, I was able to bounce the front wheels of the ground on my 1200 coupe (engine and all), by jumping up and down on the tow bar. Imagine even a 250hp rotor in a 1200 getting hooked up on the drag strip!

P.P.S. Yes the front shocks are cactus!!

Thanks for the replies guys.....and thanks Damo, I shall give that guy a yell I reckon. Pretty cheap and I'm doing them myself so we'll see what happens.

Thanks again.

Any tips on replacing them? I am going to do it myself, but would like to have a bit of a clue before I start. I gather thes best way is to drill out the spot welds first and go from there?

Cheers.

Does anyone know where I can buy coupe sill panels from? There seems to be plenty of places that sell 1200 ute sills, but not coupe ones. Can the ute ones be used on the coupe? i.e are they long enough and are they the same shape the entire way though?

If anyone could help out, it would be great.

Cheers.

I have uploaded a pic here of a similar setup in my 1200 coupe. It shows the plate used to line up the engine with the mounts....quality is a bit crappy.....but it's heaps easier to use the phone than to rip the camera!

Cheers.

Hahaha, well I will be finished with it in about 6 months ;)

Yeah, this one is dead stock from what I can see, with about 15 years worth of built up scum on the floors!

Which brings me to another thing...what is it about old dattos? Nearly every one that I have seen or looked at is full of picture magazines or some kind of porn, including this one!

It's quite uncanny really, does that say something about datsun owners in general? Hahaha.

Cheers
