Yay for Pigdog! I have both a CA loom and a 1200 loom so this could work. Also good to know you are nearby as I live in the middle of the QLD outback these days Are you still in Geelong? If so will give you a call in a week or so when I am down that way.

Hi all, Have not been on the forums for freaking ages, but am after a loom to finish off my 1200 project.
After something to plug and play (Manual CA into 1200 coupe using standard CA ecu) as I have no free time anymore.
Cheers, Jim.

Thanks guys, Good link D, not a fan of the looks but compared to other cars in that price range it is very tempting. Seems that people like the Stagea, looks like I may just have to get myself one, however it looks like I have two choices,
*2010 Golf GTi DSG, 155kw, DSG (is so nice to drive, was scaring the dealer a week ago), with leather seats etc is around $50,000
*something like a 1999 Stagea, RB25, no mods, manual, around $20,000
With the stagea that would leave lots of moolah to say... hmm.. put a r34 front on it, mod the rb/suspension, clean it up, resulting in a very nice daily and enough money left over for a house deposit.
Or leave it stock and put a sticker on it saying "What?!... I iz a Volvo...."
Unless anyone can think of a reason not to buy a stagea for a fun daily it looks like the obvious choice.

Thanks guys, Great suggestions, we already have a forrester :), so that is out, the wrx is too plasticy and looks a bit odd so is out, the GTi is just a little too expensive with options, albeit a brilliant car, the M3 is a great idea, I have wanted an E46 M3 ever since they came out, however having two friends with them I would *never* want to get a major service done on one.
I have however figured out what to buy, reasons are: For her * "Honey it's a wagon! See, not a sports car, will be great for the kids!" * "It has AWD too so will be extra safe in rough conditions!" * "It's a family car"
For Me * RB26 :) :) * GTR driveline
It's... a Stagea. Not small, not esc + curtain airbags which has totally defeated the entire point of the thread I started, but a good choice for a second car?
Sound reasonable? And it's Nissan.

Hi all, I need to buy a new car and cannot find anything 'sensible' and fun. Sensible it has to be otherwise my partner will never let me buy it. I have had a look at everything Nissan has but there does not seem to be anything fun within reasonable budget (yeah gtrs are fun, so are houses though).
So far have had a look at Wrxs, Xr5ts, GTis, MPS'S.
The wrx was good but higher insurance, high fuel usage and a certain image attached to it. The XR5 was great value but still looked like an EL inside, Did not like the look of the MPS, The Golf GTi was awesome, especially with the DSG, and looked great (more of a sleeper kind of guy). It felt a little sluggish on the test drive though compared to the others and only has 150 something kw I believe.
Have I missed anything? I had my heart set on an old N14 GTi-R however the boss says that whatever we buy must have esc, curtain airbags etc, so no S15s, R34s etc :( :(
Does anyone have any suggestions? Are Nissan/Toyota doing any better models overseas worth importing?
Cheers, Jim

Now I am quite confused.
Following your advice Dodgeman, I did a coil test which showed 12V in and 12V out with coil disconnected from the distributor. When I reconnected the distributor however it dropped to 0.4V out.
It has a new condenser now too, along with the new coil, new rotor button, new dizzy cap, new ht leads, new plugs, new points.....
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this?
Cheers, Jim.

Hi all, I'm trying to get an a12 to run on the shed floor to see if it is okay to go into a mini, however I cannot get any spark out of the coil.
It has 12V to the + terminal on the coil but no power from - terminal (with points open or closed). There is power from the main terminal on the coil though (terminal from coil to rotor) constantly.
I have checked everything and so far: Ballast resistor is fine, new coil which should be fine, new rotor button and dizzy cap, new spark plug leads and plugs, new points which have been gapped.
Coil is getting 12 volts but it seems that when the points are closed the coil is not earthing through the distributor.... any ideas anyone? Have I missed something obvious?
Also, engine is safely secured on the floor so no need for flaming.
Cheers, Jim.

Hi all, The engine in my mini (1098cc a-series) has died and I have a perfectly good a12 I want to swap it with.
Has anyone mucked around with swapping a BMC a-series to a Datsun a-series? They look very similar but the in-sump transmission and clutch assembly look a bit worrying.
Cheers, Jim.
