Urgh not really. I have three rare A-series datsuns that have all been purchased with great difficulty thanks to the bidders who are just doing it for fun. I've waited out multiple dud auctions and had to keep the effort up on sellers to get the sale and convince them I were genuine and worth the effort.

This scenario has happened over and over and over again. It is nothing new and unfortunately the Reserve auctions are the ones that attract all the trouble.

Shill bidding for sure but mostly bluff bids.

here is how it goes:

- Seller gets told he's got a rare coupè.
- Seller lists using reserve feature to get best price.
- Bidders wanting to identify the reserve throw false bids down and inflate the already unrealistic selling price.
- Auction ends with apparently lots of activity but no sale.
- Seller now convinced he is selling a golden unicorn.
- Seller lists again and the cycle repeats, genuine bidders lose interest.
- seller realises unrealistic price and lowers the reserve but by now the auction stinks of suspectos.
- Seller now has the false bidders dropping bids like it's their weekend bender on the pingaz.

-Auction eventually ends with the seller frustrated with the process and the buyer turns out to be some oaf who wants to "dooidup" and bang some modern motor in it with a paint job reminiscent of a deep sea fishing lure.

All parties unhappy, genuine buyers lose the opportunity and a good classic goes to the chop chop to become a boring half arsed turd.

What a shame.........

Someone prove my prediction wrong!

From a frustrated, genuine bidder of auction number 2 of 10, max bid of $5300, now not interested.

Big thanks to Nick Cross for all his help in wrapping these nicely and arranging pick-up and drop-off. Wheels got to me last week after a long wait in Brisbane.

Job well done!

Thanks Dave,

I'm not prepared to pay that price for one. Two, perhaps, but not for one.

Bump.
