Yeah they truly are the wahy of the future. The process they use is called sintering where its SSteel powder mixed with a binder, then heat cured. Ive been looking into a company called Shapeways, they charge by the Cubic centermetre so its actually not bad price wise...tho their service seems to vary due to demand. Its crazy trhat when I looked into this stuff about 3 years ago for my jewellery, machines were upwards of $50k now you can buy a kit version for your home for a bit over a grand!...still the resolution varies but imagine the applications...imagine what ou would save on packaging and distribution alone!
you have a dxf or other CAD version of the badge chris? would save a bit of time.
Well the issue here is the printers will not touch copyrighted material. But im wondering if a badge from a defunct model is enough of a grey area...I will ask them also...just wondering if anyone knew how long copyright lasts on things like car badges.
exhuming this thread again... Ive been looking into 3d printing services that can do a variety of materials including stainless. My 3D moddeling skills are getting better also...(Ive tried to enlist my 12yo stepson into learning it so hell be able to teach me in a couplke of months :)) I reckkon id be able to make a satisfactory 3d model of one. So just say we have the file...what would be the legalites of printing this badge be? Is it copyrighted?...could be the final hurdle :/
Yew I might even make this if I can find some new tyres and survive another bout of rego :/ D, its heaps of notice to get the day off and come along. It would be good if all who regulary interact could come along, and if not sort out differences (not in a agro4 kinda way)...at least put them aside for a day :)
Are there BBQs at any of the parks were stopping at? Snags, Sauce and bread aint no thing to rustle up even for the cheapest of us ;)
