hi

over the weekend ill be assembling my a15 engine, now im not sure how to get the timing chain back on. the a12 i did i replaced the timing chain as it was knackered (engine had nearly 010 of wear - i bet its done a million miles) and the replacement had a joining link but the stock ones dont seem to have that link.

whats the trick to getting the chain on easily when there isnt a removable link?

cheers,
Cameron

ive had a little trouble getting the megasquirt to talk to the computer but i finally had some success. I can now tune it although the base map i wont alter till its in the vehicle and running.

Camshaft was sent away today to get ground, another ground cam that i had there unfortunately had a badly chipped oil pump drive tooth so i wasnt game to take the risk of it jamming in future. Engine I should get back tomorrow from the machine shop all nicely bored and the pistons swapped over and new frost plugs and cam bearings so that will be all ready for assembly. A mate is going to skim the head to give it a nice new surface for the gasket to seal against.

for those engine assemblers, whats the best way to get the timing chain back on? i think i did it by taking the cam shaft cog off when i disassembled the engine. The last a series that i assembled i put a new chain on which had a joining link but the stock ones dont seem to have that so im not yet sure how i will do it.

ive got a few spare here as well but thanks for the offer. I dont plan on breaking anything but i do want this car to be a 'set and forget' sort of thing.

oh mint!

i saw this auction on trademe, that guy's dyno sheet is pretty respectable for the mods that have been done, im looking forwards to having the same sorta grunt: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=257430676

nice flat torque curve, any idea what 180kmph in 3rd gear would be in RPM?

gday

i have an h145 rear axle in the morry minor sedan and i need to upgrade that to a h150, i have two options:
1 - put h150 centre into h145 housing and use a 2.5mm spacer
2 - modify my h150 assembly to fit the morris minor. The h145 has already been modified.

the only thing preventing me from putting the h150 into the h145 housing is im not sure how strong the axles or halfshafts are in the h145 setup. Will they take the power of a hotted up a15 reliably?

cheers,
Cameron

sounds like you know about most of that stuff anyway. I think that the person who made that wiki was thinking along the lines that a 100 lb.ft engine will exert the same strain on the differential in the same gear regardless if it is producing that torque at 2000rpm or 8000rpm.

its the torque that the driveshaft is transferring that is what matters, how fast it is spinning is irrelevant. Perhaps they should have narrowed it down to that rather than engine torque

I paid $900 for an a15 go-er which had dellorto carbs and a 60 series 5 speed box, it tested good and went really well but later found out that it had a scratched bore so its rebuild time now.

so far my rebuild bill is up to $1750 but that includes:
~ new pistons, 040
~ all new bearings incl cam
~ all new gaskets
~ EFI manifold from mitsi 4g15
~ megasquirt computer
~ kelford f12 regrind performance cam with refaced lifters and performance valve springs
~ wideband lambda sensor

Im going to sell my carbies to recover some costs. I havnt got the machine shop work done yet

looks great!! how are you finding the angle of the two inner injectors, they dont really point in an ideal direction for the a15 ports. looks like you didnt have to grid as much off with the datsun headers, with my custom one for the morry minor they go out a lot further before they go down which made fitment trickier.

what computer? other engine specs? what power approx is it producing? its great to see another person's efforts to learn from

injection trigger? megasquirt will just pick up on the rpm. Im not using sequential injection so it doesnt really matter when the fuel is injected, as long as its injected once every two revolutions. It seems as though i can do it in two lots though, fire injectors one and three on the first revolution and 4 and 2 on the next revolution and alternate like that. benefits are the fuel rail pressure is more constant.

got any pictures or whatever of your mitsi efi set-up so far?
