I am getting my a14 rebuilt and i am wondering if I should buy a new pair of 38mm SU carbies for around $700 or should i explore other options?
I already have a manifold from some hitachu cabies to suit the SU's.
the engine will be: bored 60 thou balanced 70 30 cam 280 276 duration head ported double valve springs extractors
just after some inside information

there is a resonably priced pair at a local carby shop (he wants to get rid of them). according to this web site they might be pretty close to working with a 33mm main venturi. http://members.aol.com/dvandrews/webers.htm

I just managed to get my head of my a14 today, one of the head bolts snapped and jammed in the head 3 hours later and heaps of crc it was persuaded off. (although the bolt is still in the block).
Is it a gx head or has it been modeified if? it has double valve springs, oval ports (these match up with the su manifold), on the bottom side in each valve group it looks like it has been recessed a couple of mm (i dont know if it is to allow for each piston), the head has the numbers h89 and 605 stamped on it. i have tried to find information on the head but it seams all gx head have nisan printed on them, mine does not and the numbers have thrown me off as well.
the pistons have a smooth concave dish in them is this standard? or will i be able to tell when i pull out the pistons.

hi how you all doin just new to this seeing how it works i am 27 and live in perth i am in the middle of doing up an 1985 1200ute. i got hold a smashed ute with lots of goodies about a year ago. (an a14 with twin su's, some head work (double valve springs), electronic ignition, extractors, a mild cam, disc brakes from a 180b, king springs lowered and adjustable koni shocks). I transfered all this onto a 1981 ute. the handling was awesome and the motor pullled really hard. 3 weeks ago i got hold of the 1985 ute so i am transfering over to this one. i would like to do a complete engine rebuild as it drinks oil and fouls plugs in about 2 weeks. does anyone if it is posable to buy performance parts for a14 engines
ps. this site has been very helpfull for the last year as i learn about these awsome cars
