The Steelies (actually 'outlaws' from Geelong) are staying on the car.... would not part with them (they will match in nicely with the rollbar)

as for the S13 dash it just so happens that i am in the process of fitting at the moment - I should have some pics soon but I have the whole dash out and apart and have spot welded a couple of metal tabs on the bottom to screw in to and the top mount is through the dash metal (pics will explain). I had to make up a new face plate to hide the top corners so I got some aluminium and traced out and cut out the gauges. It should look ok when painted matt black.

You could fight it but once the insurance companies get involved you're pretty much toast. Better to put your tail between your legs and take the hit (pardon the pun).

Chalk one up for experience and make extra allowances for women drivers and anyone wearing a HAT!

I love the English language .... even for those of us that count it as a second language

you can sound sexi-est or sexist
you can deceive people but can't actually in deceive them
you could actually be indecisive and sexist

in the end I read your submission and was both entertained and am able to show empathy

Did a little today while the weather was kind

I finished off grinding down the old cross-member and tacked on the plates that will form the new mounting points. Also lined up my blocks of wood (35mm thick) in place of rubber mounts to set the holes (slots) in the right place.

I also had to 'move' the front part of the passenger side mount a little as the bolt would have hit in the middle of the support

Here's too many pics

If you have a look at my project build (DEMAC's 1200 UTE) then you will get an idea of the things that MY engineer told me for MY circumstances.

I did get agreement that I would not be subject to any new regulations as long as I complete the process within 6 months

Road Reg or Track Car?
If Road Reg; Where do you plan to register?
If you are in Victoria the engineering (power to weight) will only allow CA18

I am about to go in search of the rubberised (and bolt in) engine mounts to go between the crossmember and the motor

I have found TC /TD Cortina ones for $35 each which are 35mm thick and 71mm in diameter from Burson's here in Melbourne.

Question: what has anyone else used? (the Nissan guy at the spare parts counter wanted $342 each for S13 Silvia ones ... )

a little more progress ....

Fitted up the R31 fuel tank up under the tray behind the rear axle. It fits in there quite nicely, now just have to plumb it in up to the filler. Also went through a whole bottle of gas playing with my new welder. Anyhow, I got my plugs for the auto computer off the ECCS of a pintara (found out later that I could have got them off a VL commodore - which are common as mud).

Next thing on my plate is to re mock up the crossmember for the engine (I have only done this 3 times so far)

I decided to attach the auto flex plate with 90 lbs of tension (hope that's right) fitted up the gear box with the torque converter not sure of how much tranny fluid should go in that so filled it up and turned it on it's side till no more fluid came out again.
Next lowered the car over the motor and g/box on the floor (this is getting easier) and bolted up the g/box with my home made g/box cross member (fits on to the auto mounts).

Need to decide on a few things though ... where to run the wiring, how to fit up the air inlet but maintain the battery in the engine bay, how to fit the 120y front stabiliser without hitting the sump.

anyway, might take some pics tomorrow. I am off to sit in front of the telly while trying to remove the pins out of these plugs 6 down only 21 to go
