I think turbo's (If being rebuilt properly) should be done in a specialist workshop or at least with the right equipment. They spin the turbine up to rediculus speeds etc.
Here are some of the things that have been done to my reco turbo...
VSR shaft balance UV fracture assessment Acid treatment Corrosion treatment Actuator preassure test and service
Keep in mind - the last thing you want is for it fly apart and go through your engine / cooler. Then you'll be up for a new turbo AND a new engine etc.
But everyone knows we'd still be in the stone age unless people 'had a crack' and gave it a go!
I have moved interstate from Vic to NSW and back a couple of times and far as I know, Blue slipping is mainly for 'numbers' checking. If the car was previously registered with the matching numbers to the rego paperwork and engineers paperwork and the car is in roadworthy condition there should be no probs.
I bought a VH commodore from VIC to NSW with no chassis number (was on radiator support panel - but was replaced with a new one after minor bingle) all I had to do was to get the panel beaters receipt with that particular part on it and show it to the RTA. - All good...
Was speaking to the panelbeater that is doing my ute... He said that if using Taiwanese panels it's easier to replace them all with after market stuff. In other words, when you mix and match. It get's harder to align and fit origional with aftermarket.
Everyone has a different opinion with aftermarket panels... some people have been stung and some have had good experiences.
TRY to find genuine stuff otherwise ebay seller - 'jkratso' has heaps of stuff.
Does anyone know of a good engineer in Victoria? Preferably near Melbourne - West would be even better if I can afford to be fussy. By the way of good, I don't mean dodgy... Everything will be done properly, but from previous experience it's easier to deal with someone that has dealt with your type of car in the past.
