with his valve timing arguments for the exhaust, he also draws on some of the Miller Cycle stuff, where by the supercharger forces all of the exhaust air out of cylinder etc. One of the problems with the Miller Cycle engines for cars (until Mazda used it in the 90's) was that they couldn't rev... I'd say the low revs that the V8 compressor ran at probably apply to this idea also- fine to produce compressed air, bad propelling a car. Also if you are forcing air into the engine at 3 bar, what fuel will you run? Diesel?

I'd say you're spot on dodge... most of the design of the combustion engine happened in the first 20 years of the car, and was all over by 1913! Someone would have done this if it were viable, especially if you could get 1.5 times the power from 1/2 the displacement. The only thing that's really changed in recent years obviously is computer control.

Still it's a better effort than that exhaust into cylinder drawing from that Corvette site

What a load of BS.

LOL... yup I have to agree here! My Aussie made BMW headers did not fit my car properly, as they had obviously copied a set from a German LHD car! This was a reputable aussie brand too - did they ever try fitting them to a RHD car... I think not.

I work as an import / export QA inspector, and I often come in as an independent umpire representing the overseas buyer or seller (ie. the Chinese, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, Arabs whoever). Yes, I even inspected the Pontiac GTOs for GM before they left the dock from Holden (ie. they don't even trust a branch of THEIR OWN COMPANY)... all I can say is that if you think Aussie exporters have perfect records, you are living in dream land Demo.

I have also seen plenty of importers trying to rip off Chinese exporters even when they are paying virtually nothing for a product and selling at giant markups when the incoming product has been of excellent quality, and well within specifications. It goes both ways.

As everyone has already pointed out, with any cheap stuff it really is BUYER BEWARE. But you can get some great stuff if you look around and don't have unrealistic expectations.

you get what you payed for

well yeah - the radiator has been great... every bit as good and durable as an OEM radiator BUT I felt the pain at the time!

I have to agree that the Chinese will learn very quickly... you only have to look at some of the companies that have been making products there for a while. One example is fishing gear... I can buy a good chinese boat rod now for $35 which would have cost $180+ in the past. Companies like Okuma have been making the gear now for 10 years, and it's every bit as good as the expensive stuff you buy from Daiwa etc (which by the way is also now made in China anyway!)

They seem to be pretty new at this whole performance parts thing, but they will get there without a doubt.

Watch out for the fly by nighters that do one run, then shut the factory! (Happens a lot over there).

But yeah - don't bitch about something you bought for $20... considering the last custom 3 core radiator I got made up was $500, and that was several years ago now.

you bet... the RB20 would have to be the biggest 2.0L engine of all time! I also tinker with BMW 6 cylinder M20 engines (I have a 323i as well as the 1200) which come in similar capacities to the RB series (2.0L, 2.3L, 2.5L, 2.7L) and the RB is a good 15cm (6 inches) longer than the BMW small 6 cylinders.

still, I'd like to see one done, especially mid mounted with 3 cylinders in front of the firewall, and 3 cylinders behind!

In SA you'd have had your license taken off you on the spot - even on your full license!

At least we don't have the stupid 3km/h over speeding tickets though like Victoria though.

Still - unless you were in perfect weather on a nice wide, straight stretch of freeway, the old ton is getting a bit crazy the way a lot of our roads are.

I run a Sigma one on mine... not sure of the exact details, but it's higher output than the 1200 one, and a bolt on fit.

Well - sounds lucky to me... in SA that used to be instant loss of license on your P's - I presume it still is.

A friend of mine (I haven't had my P's in many years ) recently got done by a camera 3 days before getting his full license - he received the fine after he actually had his full license and was told he was to be disqualified. He went to court to appeal, saying he would happily pay the fine, and cop the demerits on his full license, but the disqualification seemed a bit harsh.

The outcome was he got his license back, but his P's were extended for 2 years... he will now be on his P's till he's 23! He was less than 15km over the limit.

well... either motor can be bolted in with a kit from MadDat - they'll ship stuff just about anywhere.

http://www.maddat.com.au/

if you do a search of the forum, you'll find HEAPS of info on either of these conversions.

Depending on whether you're handy with a soldering iron at all, you could wire them up yourself - or in NSW I guess you could find someone in Sydney to do it.

Good Luck
