The "centre tie rod piece" (center link or drag link) is not interchangeable because of where the idler arm attaches. The inner/outer tie-rods with adjustment sleeves can be nominalized to specs, and so are interchangeable. Strongly suggest a professional alignment is performed after replacement.

Go to TnPshow's profile, then select Datsun downloads. It is at the bottom.

That crunchy sound is probably misaligned syncros jammed back to partial position.
Anyways I have the factory manual chapter for the 63A in a high quality .pdf doc. It is roughly 7MB (after file size reduction). If any one knows where I can post it so it is available to everyone, let me know.

Besides arrangement of gears, the Striker arm is the main difference in the 60 and 63 series. Essentially the same concept as the 4sp though. I’ll get the 63a chapter scanned and sent to you and get it posted here somewhere-Maybe with TnShow’s 60a 5sp. When I scan I will highlight to steps and add an adjustment in the reassembly of the rear housing that will save you a lot of trouble, believe me I learned the hard way.

Is it possible to pop the rear extension assembly off with out having to dismantle the front?

The manual shows a longer complete disassembly procedure that seems better to avoid in this case...

Yes. What manual do you have?

Salutations B2Slow:
I would say revhead001 is on the right track; especicially if 1, 3, &5th work. If you are confident in your abilities; you can remove the rear extension housing and inspect/repair yourself as your problem almost certainly lies there.
If you are not confident, an experienced transmission tech could more then likely identify and repair your tranny in 10 mins with the rear housing off. You could certainly get a quote for an inspection. Damage to syncros or gears need not be expected for this gripe. Let us know what the cause was ,when you find out.

Unfortunately many after market Korean manufactured ball joints for our cars are non-greasable types.

Rebuilt to stock gear ratio’s 60A 5 sp from ‘82 210. Tire 155 80 13(stock)
Other notes:
Have a couple of 63A's I am rebuilding but never road tested (the 63A was the original 5sp option for the B210)
Currently running 175 70 13's with a little decrease in MPG (45-50 no extra weight) as long as I keep at 75mph or below. If I hit 80mph my mpg immediately goes to @#$%.With original 60 series 4sp I would get comparable mpg at 55mph or below. In short, if I am not getting 40+ mpg something is wrong.
Gear ratio= 37/10
Deburred and port matched H72 head and H72 intake.
Significant weight removed from car = cast iron exhaust and complete AC system.
I rebuilt my A14 engine with cheap free power and volumetric efficiency (close matching stock bore and stroke help this and why engine size was only increased to 1407cc, camshaft, and crank stock)in mind so I concentrated on breathing and exhaling. I am probably a little obsessive with my tune-ups,check valve clearance every other oil change(6000mi),change out and index spark plugs(gap=.051) every 6 mons. I am a firm believer in a strong ignition system.
For the environmentalist:
Really all I cared about was fuel, air and fire, and ironically after this I have additional horse power/TQ (never measured, but I know its there, maybe high 80’s hp?)and the engine burns cleaner then when it was stock this was measured as I kept all my smog test records(required until a car is 25yr old in GA USA) and took a smog test just to see how my engine was burning-all emissions were below all readings in all categories for my last 5 smog tests.

My car is in the nifty fifty club; and is essentially well maintained stock, with the exception of headers, a little port matching/deburring, 32/36 Webber and Jacobson ignition. Actual cc=1407.
I have driven coast-to-coast more then 4x's with 350-400lbs of gear and averaged 39-45mpg on the freeway if I stayed under 75mph.I easily break 50mpg on my monthly 478 mile trip to see my kids. I have been too impatient to see what type of mileage I would get at 55mph.
