Sadly I'm offering my beloved 1984 Vanette for sale. It is a project car which I wished to get on the road. I have done a fair bit of mechanical work and some panel so far. She has had a LOT of rust which I cut out, and some of which I replaced with new metal. It needs a full retrim too.
I drove it 50 km (Crows Nest to Toowoomba) with a permit about a month ago. I think you would have to be VERY dedicated if you wanted to fix her up, but otherwise she would be great for parts, particularly if you have another Vanette in need of parts or want an A15.
So far I have spent around $750 on it:
Rebuilt starter
Set of mags and tyres off ebay (suit Hyundai Excel also)
New Monroe gas front shocks
New plugs, points, airfilter (rare as- cost heaps that bloody thing!)
New oil and filter,
Had new mirrors made and got an interior mirror from wreckers.
Got another rust free tailgate from the wreckers- original tailgate is supplied as a source of metal to weld into rusty bits- some has already been done.
Car is disassembled but drivable- you can take it for a drive if you are game- not registered or roadworthy!
Both windscreens are out- have two back ones, but no front one as it broke coming out.
Price is $600 firm. It owes me more than that, and I have spent a HUGE amount of time on it. It will be advertised on ebay shortly.
(0437) 724 665.
Thanks! :)
Email me for pics too.

Looks good. I was given a low roof Vanette, 84 recently which I really like. Problem with mine though is rust- whole front nosecone around the headlights is rusted out. Not sure whether to toss it or not. Drives well. Really like the little jigger.
If yours has no rust I'd be keeping it and using it as a camper. Do you have any pics of the engine bay? Thanks! :)

Woohoo! Got an A15 in it. Gearbox seems like a 4 speed. Pretty slow to drive though. Must need a tune! :)

Thanks for that. Id stamps in the A12 areas are non-existant so it must be one of the others. My van is at a mates place, 40 minutes out of town so will have a look today when I go out. :)

One on the right looks correct judging by rear mount, but the number there is '5'. Maybe that signifies 4speed, assuming yours is a five speed?

Cheers. I don't think mine has that- maybe it is a A14?

Joined your forum last week and have been enjoying sniffing around the site. I was given a rusty and neglected 84 Vanette last week, which I am going to restore and get back on the road. Used to get around in it years ago with my mate, the previous owner.
Got a few questions, though-
How do you identify what engine is fitted- I don't think it is an a12, as the alternator is fitted on the driver's side (right hand side)of the engine. (Australian van) So I'm guessing A14 or A15- I looked at the pad under number 4 sparkplug and nothing seems to be written there. I know it isn't the original engine. My mate who used to own it said it was a 1400 chassis with a 1200 engine fitted. I'm thinking it is the other way around.
It is a column shift, and am wondering how many speeds it is- once again, not original box, I can only find four speeds and reverse, but the smooth case gearbox says Nissan 5 on it on the driver's side....Could it be a five speed and the column shift doesn't suit?
Thanks! :)
