What kind of relay should I use?
So if I plan on solution #2, I can just run the "+" terminal wire on the coil straight to the battery thru the relay?
Won't the battery constantly supply voltage and current even when the ignition switch is at off position?
Thanks, Nelson

I got some questions on swapping out the Dual Point Distributor and replacing it w/ a Electronic Ignition Distributor on my 620. I got the electronic dizzy off a 79 620 at Pick & Pull along with the two wires that are connected from the matchbox to the coil. So I think I am pretty much all set for the swap except I need the ignition coil specified for EI. Is MSD Blaster 2 any good?
I am very familiar with the installation of the distributor. I only have questions on how exactly I should hook up the wires. I know that the two wires coming from the matchbox will be connected to the "+" & "-" terminal of the coil. However, I have questions on the following: - How to eliminate the ballast resistor? Can I just simply disconnect the wires on it and connect both wires together bypassing the resistor? - Which spark plug wires do I have to flip? Cylinder #1 and #3? - Anything else that I have to do?
Thanks, Nelson

So, I should check on the vacuum leak first. While I am at it, should I just replace the intake manifold gasket by taking the manifold off?
How can I adjust the timing properly if the base idle is too fast when warm?

It is a new unit from a VW shop who specialized in Bugs. I thought the bug's engine displacement is almost the same as my L16's, so I went ahead and bought it.
What should I do? Replace the jets to a smaller size? Which jet do I need to change? And what is the proper jet size for my 73 L16.
Thanks

Hi everyone, I just installed a new Weber 32/36 DFEV to my 73 620 w/the original L16. I got the carb. from a VW shop. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, NGK spark plugs, points and condenser, good plug wires, good distributor cap and rotor, and fresh motor oil and filter. I also serviced the cooling system. So everything is fresh. However, I am having problem of tuning this carb.
On the base idle setting, Weber recommends 2 to 2.5 turn out for the mixture screw, and 1 to 1.5 turn for the speed screw. But if I tune my carb. according to this setting my idle speed will be around 3k rpm. The setting I am using is 1 turn out for the mixture screw and zero turn on the speed screw, and my idle is around 1200rpm when fully warmed and this is the most smooth setting.
But the engine just will not idle after a cold start. I got all the electric choke stuff hooked up correctly and I know for sure that the choke is closed when the engine is cold and opens when hot.
In order for it to run, I have to sit there and play with the throttle to make it stays running. After it warms up, then the engine will idle at 1200rpm.
So I pulled the spark plugs out and confirmed that the engine is running rich.
Does that mean I have to change the jets to a smaller size? What else can I do?
Any input will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Nelson
