For those that use the 1200 coupe /sedan for track, what cars is it comparable to? Handling wise.

Looking for information on how well can these cars made to handle with mild to moderate suspension upgrades.
And if you have driven other cars that's track oriented how does it compare? Specs on both or either or just feedback in general. Side note. Anyone own or driven an s30(datsun z)? How does this compare to it? Looking for a fun mountain twisty car and perhaps multi function car. And the weight of these cars is a really big plus.

Making a ford 8.8 bolt on? Possible without going with custom frame?

Hi guys,
Going for a more stronger set up and since the r31 aren't available here in the USA the ford 8.8 is my best possible option. LSD and with disk on both end as well as cheap and easy to find makes this a top option instead of the IRS swap I was considering. Plus launching on slicks might be in the future. Anyways how do you guys mount these live axle? I don't want a full drag set up with box tubing subframe. So I was thinking narrowed with shorter axle. And then all mounting from the stock rear end are transferred/made custom to the 8.8 So it would be essentialy a bolt on rear end without modification to the datsun body. Is this how narrow rear end are adapted? Or is there something else? I rear the tech wiki but nothing is really covered on this so I assumed it simple the way I stated it. Inputs? Thanks

Been looking for a cheaper option for a LSD rear end. And so I'm looking to swapping a 510 IRS(with subby r160 or maybe even a 240z/260z/280z IRS(r200 LSD )
But reading the tech I followed the link to a thread but the poster of that thread deleted the link to the pics so it won't show. Anyone else have them saved? Looking to see what needs modified and how the spring was set up with shocks. Thanks

Re: any aftermarket t3 or t4 manifold that works with ca18det in a 1200?

Did you really only get 205whp? That seems extremely low for that turbo at 18psi. Are you sure you have all the supporting mods and not have a bottleneck of some sort? If so then perhaps it's time to switch tuner. Here's a dyno page from nico that has peoples numbers and mods. Some guy is on there with t25 making 190whp at 15psi iirc. http://forums.nicoclub.com/dyno-sheets-t136619.html Perhaps your missing something.

I'm assuming that's crank? Not wheel hp? The reason I ask is because from my search a lot of peoplesay yes you can get t28 to get 300whp but that's on it's max output. Around 18+ psi not 15.(I'm getting my info from nicoclub and 240sx) I don't feel like driving a turbo that's a ticking timebomb then I'll end up buying another then another when I can get one that maybe works at it's 90% range vs 100% it will be cheaper on the long run. I'm thinking maybe a custom mount might be the way to go, and bottom mount is sounding good to. I mean if you know of one that's able to get 300whp with t28 please sen me his link so I can copy it. (this is ofcourse with stock engine) (if engine has work done besides head gasket then it's a different ball game)

how much hp are you able to get out of that? Quote:
Not as serious as you lol at a mere 300whp I dont plan to spend more than 1k on a turbo and manifold maybe 1200 max with turbo/manifold/wastegate. ideally i want to be bellow 1k. which is why i was looking at ebay tubular and set it up with a sc50 or something. While I like the idea of ball bearing ill stick to journal just incase i need to rebuild it in the future. Quote:
well I was hoping to get a t3 or MAYBE t4(but maybe to big for ca) for more flow. I dont think hybrid fits into stock manifold. and goal isnt 15psi goal is 300whp. but i prefer to stay around that boost vs 20+psi. If theres a turbo capable of that power that bolts to stock manifold please let me know. I search around and majority jump to gt28 or gt30.

im currently collecting parts for my swap. and I see a few people with aftermarket turbo but i did not find any info on what exhuast manifold they use.
I can make one if needed but would rather buy one premade and save myself the headache seeing that a flange itself is like 60 plus piping its a good 80-90. will the ebay top mount fit in a 1200? i want to run a t3 sc50. or a gt30. so external wastegate. anyone know of one? im trying to keep the cost of turbo down to like less than 800 and power goal of 300-325whp. and prefered 15psi. thanks

2 grand is a bit steep for a rear end set up like the r31 dont you think? Ive search all other the site and net, and found no cheaper alternative. Found a few guys converting to IRS and thats most likely my best and cheapest option. unless anyone else has a good option that can handle 350-400whp and launch on slicks (just incase I try them someday lol) ofcourse must be lsd

well in that case cant really explain it either lol but are we talking about the same thing? back road racing for me usually means a set up race. example a challenge or what not. Usually just another way to show off your machine even though you know its fast. and ya I actually plan to track my bike this coming season. its on my to do list, and I wish I can track my car but the closest drag track is 2 hours away and only open to public on test n tune Wednesday. which means getting maybe 2-3 runs after spending 5 hours overall. alot of waiting in traffic to get there and waiting cuz every import likes to go lol ya looks like thats the way im leaning, did some major read and search of possible mid engine rwd set up but looks like I cant fit the engine back there without loosing the back seat... so back to square one. :( |
