60 series on Gumtree for $1500! :(

Want a t50 for strength sake as I eventually want to turbo the a15.

Yea i know the one Dave thanks :) got a long way to go I think on the steam idea. Tossing up whether I should try it in a suzuki sierra instead and make it the ultimate adventure vehicle only needing a spark and some logs to get moving. Would be a cool marketing setup for true survival mode lolololol

Still looking for these parts.

Looks like Graham can help me with the pulley and the alt bracket. I'll give you a call this week mate, things been hectic with new bub so might be hard getting down to you.

No one at all got a t50?

Are Dellows still producing them? I see it still on there site but I thought they discontinued or something?

Any advice on which gearbox I should go for as the wiki said there is a few to choose from? I understand i will have to specify which one with the Dellow mob.

Thanks all

Thanks Graham, I will contact you tomorrow night.

I know hey Dave, that wouldn't have been a bad option the sigma box. I wonder who ended up with it?

I've thought about direct drive for steam and with the right engine design it's possible. Problem is you usually have a steam engine with 20hp that might produce 200ft/lbs. I have been trying to come up with a design that can match closer to the horsepower of an ice engine for quicker acceleration. That's the goal at the moment. I'm trying to achieve that by either gearing a large torquey engine which will transfer to ice rpms with a gear and that way maintain a gearbox. If I maintain a gearbox, it will give me the chance to idle in neutral and run a small alternator and even aircon depending on how powerful it is. Rather than relying on being in motion to be able to recharge the battery or use aircon whil stationery.

Other option is a faster spinning engine that operates above typical steam engine speeds of 500-900 rpms. Still though with that design a gearbox will be handy in order to reduce steam usage at higher speeds.

I've only just worked on the idea that a gearbox would be beneficial cause it also allows revving of the engine and dumping of the clutch to get you off the line that bit quicker. Providing I match revs similar to an ICE. If it works well then next step would be finding the perfect gearbox match for the steam engine.

I am working on a design that meets half way between the piston engine and a turbine. Turbine is no good for cars as it needs to reach very high speeds before making any power. And if you dump load onto a turbine too early, steam will just pass through without being used.

Also, i'm counting on the idea that many early steam guys come up with that is using a condenser to cool the steam down which will cause a vaccuum effect and assist in the power department.

Anyway it's all dreams and theories at the moment! I seriously reckon it's possible.
I know some of my horsepower/torque terms might not be on point. I'm still researching and understanding the correlation between them. 5252rpm thing is interesting and will probably play a role in what i'm trying to do.

Yes the SR just seems way too heavy for a 1k. It took me a while to accept the fact haha. Yes it's doable and sure you could beef up the suspension but I just don't believe it will ever be as good as one would like.

A15 is well proven and is perfect for originality.

I have actually just bought the efi kit that Leigh (lagwagon) had on his vb10. Chris (clyons8) owned it I think after him, then sold it to the fella i'm buying it off now. Just getting shipping organised now. As for the a15, it will need a rebuild but looks in fairly stock standard condition with a h89 head. Got it cheap enough so i'm definately going that route so the old man can teach me how to rebuild aswell.

On a side note! I'm designing a steam engine at the moment that I eventually want to put in the 1000. But if the prototypes fail then I will be very happy with an a15 build. I'll know in a few months haha anyway

Bumpidy bump, will still need a 5 speed atleast on the a12 as soon as possible as i just went to tafe for the first time tonight and that is a long drive to be screaming on 90 down the highway for an hour and a half!!!

Anyone got the t50 and dellows!?

Thanks for all the replies...

Might go the welsh plug direction.

Dave, engineering shouldn't be an issue as I know a fella who can pass quite easily. I already have the a15 aswell ;P

Waiting game starts...

Hey Everyone.

Have been inactive for a bit but finally ready to start doing the datto up.

I'm looking at buying the following items. For the right gear in the right condition i am happy to pay what they are worth.

5 speed t50 gearbox with dellows conversion. Looking for complete setup to bolt straight to an a15.

Double Crank Pulley to suit a15. Going to put aircon in eventually.

Anyone got a dizzy blank off plate/plug by any chance? Or can anyone suggest an alternative?

Would the engine mounts to make an a15 fit in a 1200 be the same for a 1000? If so, does anyone wish to part with a set? Happy to make some up but if I don't have to...

Also alternator bracket to go on drivers side on an a15.

I think thats it.

Also selling 13x6 ssr meshies. Matching set of 4.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Can PM if u like

How much for the worked a14 aswell/both t50 and a14 together?

Are you willing to pack if I were to organise freight?

Thanks sorry for all questions haha

Hey guys,

I was wondering if I can use my standard a12 carb setup and bolt it onto an a15 engine? I assume it will need a tune to compensate and it won't perform too well but...will it do until I can save up for a set of webbers or the like?

Thanks

Matt

I had the exact same problem here too. Rough idle but would be fine when putting foot down.

Also check these couple of things:

Intake manifold bolts are tightend up and no air leaks around gasket
Check fuel filter make sure it doesnt need changing (mine did!)

The thing that actually was wrong with my carb was my Dad (mechanic) said it was possibky crap in the fuel line/jets somewhere.

Try this cause it sounds exactly the same as what happened not more than a week ago for me.

Take of air cleaner.

Start car up,

Go over to your carb and locate the throttle control

Rev your engine up really high til its up around 4,000 revs or so (not drastic but need to rev it a fair bit)

Why your still revving it then put your hand over the intake of the carb (or use a piece of flat cardboard that wont get sucked through, cause i was too chicken to do it with my hand)

Block it off completely, your engine will start to die, let it drop down revs as far as you can without stalling (doesnt matter if it does stall) then see if it idles. Repeat this process 3 times and if there is any crap in the system it should pull it through. I did it 2 times and it completely fixed the idle.

Shortly after i checked the fuel filter and surely enough it had lots of crap in it.

Sounds very similar to my problem so do give it a shot.

Hope it helps! Just thought i'd mention it cause it helped me! Thanks Dad!!!!

If not then probably definately something dd said!

Airbags would be awesome and I plan to bag my 1000 wagon not as much for looks but cause i want to tow stuff aswell and not bottom out!

Rear is easy with leaf spring but the fronts would take a bit more thinking out for strut setup, will be easy in a 1k tho cause of transverse leaf

More and more people are using airbags even with performance applications

To answer question, no probably not as good as coilovers for the settings you can get from coilovers buuuut it also depends how you mount your bags etc and also ( i assume most use a shock still) i would think alot of the characteristics come down to what shockies you use with the bag setup...

Just some things i've seen and assume but just giving you something to think about ????
