Hello All,

Thanks for the advice on the clutch - it looks like it is all sorted now.

Now the next thing.....BRAKES!

I've spotted a Wilwood set-up on here and I am looking to do the same on my Datsun B110 sedan, now I really don't like bothering people on the forum as these days everyone is so so busy and I appreciate that but when I get really stuck I reach out for help.

I spotted your set-up and got in touch with Wilwood directly with the photos that were posted and they have basically identified what you have from the pictures.

They are saying as follows: (Below)

Dave,

Thank you for the inquiry with Wilwood Disc Brakes.

Believe it or not, we actually don’t make any kits or components specifically for the Datsun 1200. It appears some very ingenuitive folks in the Datsun community have figured out that a few of our universal components work on the OE hubs/spindles.

As such, we are more than happy to help, though we don’t know the exact part number of the components being used. If we were to hazard a guess, our 160-3748 rotor may be a candidate:

http://www.wilwood.com/Rotors/RotorProd.aspx?itemno=160-3748

We make the Dynapro single with two different mounting dimensions - 3.25” and 3.75”; do you know which one you require?

3.25” version (1.75” pistons; 0.38” thick rotor):
http://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/CaliperProd.aspx?itemno=120-10188

3.75” version (1.75” pistons; 0.38” thick rotor):
http://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/CaliperProd.aspx?itemno=120-9689

NOW with this comes two questions: (on the above)

1 - will the rotor they recommend be OK for my car? (I'm on 14'' rims)

2 - Which of the caliper versions did was used? (3.25 or 3.75)

3 - How have people found the performance of this set-up with time who have it.

Again all help welcome - I would love to hear from you on this.

Best regards,

Dave.

Hello,

Thanks for the info, I am currently investigating a custom Tilton clutch set up.

Set to 200 or 215mm but there are many many options we can use with this company on the flywheel but it is about getting the right balance of road/race driveability while avoiding heavy clutch and noise.

We may need to modify the A14 flywheel and rebalance but will see....

Waiting to hear back from Dellow about conversion kit but as soon as I do I will order it.

Very excited and will post some photos when I get a chance...

Thanks and any and all advice welcome.

Best regards,

Dave

Hey guys,

I hope all is well with you Datsun fans!

Well after saving and many items have been purchased so I am finally getting the work underway on my 72 Datsun B110 build.

BUT.....I am having a bit of a nightmare with the clutch!

I have a mint Datsun A14 engine that I am turbocharging and have all the engine bits to do this and this build has been proven to put out 350hp but we are tuning it to 250hp with a rolling high boost of 300hp - so it would be wise to rate the Clutch to 350hp.

The gearbox I am using on this car is a Toyota 3T and we are in need of a clutch to use for this application of A14 to 3T through a Dellow bellhousing kit.

The current clutch/pressure plate set up is 180mm for the totally standard A14.

The 7.25'' Tilton clutch has been suggested and with your collective experience will this work and be able to cope with the power and what modification is required to the existing flywheel?

Do you guys have any suggestions of any other clutch kits that will work to a power level of upto 350hp?

I want the clutch to be as road friendly as possible - naturally.

I will look forward to hearing from you all.

Take care

Dave in the UK!

Hello All,

Well I have been busy collecting bits and ordered my wheels from Japan - all very exciting.

I am doing a A14 turbo build (200hp) and hope to start it in a couple/three months.

A few questions for you wise people...

1 - What is the max HP a 63A dogleg 5speed will handle?

2 - What diff (or complete axle) shall I use in for the build?

I will look forward to hearing from you.

Dave

Hello,

I would like to buy the 63A transmission please.

Quick question, As far as you know it all seems OK, no grinding or knocking etc?

I have a Datsun 1200 and with a A12 but am fitting a A14 to it so the gearbox needs to fit that.

My email is: gosh-speer@hotmail.com

Please email me and lets arrange the collection and transfer of funds etc.

Many thanks.

Really?!?!?!

You are the first person to say this, everyone else has said it has to be enlarged.

I am really sold on the turbo A14 now and it would be a pretty awesome engine build for sure!

A tuned ITB SR20 would be very cool and sound wonderful, but to keep it A series would be fabulous.

Dave.

Hey,

Thanks for the support - old skool engine stuff is all new to me!!

I did think 4AGE while debating the SR20 option when I found out about chopping the tunnel, but really want to keep it Nissan - Nissan, but on my wish list is a AE86 or more likely a SR coupé corolla so maybe in a few years! I am 99% sure I am staying A series engine and it looks like A14 turbo so should lay down 160-180hp!

Want to conserve money naturally but this Datsun is a keeper for life so happy to spend at the same time to make it right!

I will try to add some pictures soon.

Regards,

Dave

No Luck with the 5 speed 63 series gearbox with my parts guy in the UK- and he is telling me that they are virtually non existent here!

Do you guys have any contacts in your neck of the woods that may have one and ship it to the UK? - must fit A14 though.

Thanks in advance....

Dave
