yeah I agree with Buff a stock 1100cc escort is gay. That is why it should be compared with a Datsun 1200. And steveo a ford escort RS1600 is only about 50KG heavier than a datsun 1200.

Why do all you guys bag escorts?
They are way better.
Look at the Facts.

ESCORT RS 1600: Twin overhead cam 1600, cross flow head.

DATSUN 1200: Single cam pushrod motor, no cross flow head.

How can you say datsuns are better?

hi guys,
I have just purchased a ford escort which is faster than any datsun 1200 ever. It is a Mk2 running a toyota 4age with a garret T3 strapped to the side. It is developing about 350hp and does the 1/4 mile in 12.3 on road tires. Id like to see any datsun compete with that.

You are wrong man people in NZ bore minis out to 1440, and if by a slight chance you are right about not being able to bore a mini to 1275, then you just get an engine from an Austin or MG 1300 which has bigger valves. You also take the 1300 gearbox which ways about twice a mini one so then you are able to develop power. Also you can fit twin sidedraft webbers on a mini as all the 140hp racing minis in NZ do have them. Sorry I meant front wheel discs from a honda city which is a very easy conversion to make.
