Weber jetting on standard A12- please help!

Hi guys,
I have a very standard '72 1200, and I have acquired a Weber DGAV 32/36 (ex-Cortina) carbie because it's impossible to get a Hitachi that isn't leaking air. I want to set the carb up to run economically, and I'm hoping somebody can give me a guide to what jets I should use, or point me toward someone who can help. If anyone can help I'd be really grateful- there must be someone who's done this before me! Thanks, heinzguderian40@hotmail.com

You certainly won't do any harm with a synthetic oil, but if the older Datto motors have wider tolerances, you might start consuming the stuff as it blows by the rings and so on.
Operating temperature is also an issue: a 40-weight might be good for an Australian summer, but thinner oil would perhaps be better in very cold conditions. Also, there's not much point in using a thin, synthetic oil on a motor with a lot of wear: you need a film of oil to damp down movement.

Many thanks for the offer, Holeshot, but with the anti-pollution and fast idle gear on the 120Y, it's a bit more effort than I want to commit to if I can avoid it.
But I really appreciate the offer: I'll see how desperate I get.

Seeking A12 standard carbie...

Hi, all. I'm after a standard Hitachi carbie for my '72 1200. Mine doesn't have any anti-pollution gear, the choke cable runs above the throttle actuator.
Someone must have one lying around? I'm in Canberra and will be in Sydney on Saturday 7th Feb. My number is 0400 318 970.

I am fighting my Hitachi at the moment.
I was having mysterious and intermittent running problems (would only idle with full choke, and then roughly, very poor mid-range torque, but okay top end. Turns out the top half of my carb was warped from over-tightening the screws (it's VERY important to avoid this). The warp was allowing air through the carb body around the float bowl. |
