It's cause what car i'm running it in !!
It's in a bloody 58 Morris Minor ute !!!
Seriously i've had datty engines in one morrie or another for the last 15 years.Bloody brilliant little engine. But its only become a issue lately cause my strags are just about buggered ! The 120y manifold exits straight at a pillar they built into the firewall. Where i want it to exit is about 2 or 3 ins away from the engine .

Does anybody know whether the 1200 exhaust manifold exits in the same place as the later 120y or Sunny ??? (Both Aus versions, not sure what there called elsewhere). Using the 120y manifold it fowls on part of my firewall,I'm currently using custom made extractors that are about ten years old and in dire need of replacement(Expensive), but if the 1200/Sunny exits in a different place I can order extractors that are gonna fit up with no mods. I was hoping during engine swaps some body noticed a difference between them !!

I've got dual 40mm dellortos on the 45mm manifold and had no problems. Try to pick up a proper linkage between the carbs one thats got a screw to adjust the balance between the carbs. Talk to a carb specialist that knows a fair bit about Webers/Dellortos and he should be able to put you on the right track for these. Reason i suggest this set up is because i've got a bit of experience with the tie-rod type linkages that companies put out and they are a handful to adjust and in my opinion nowhere near as good. Best of luck Mate.

Great Site, Glad i joined !!!!!
But i also have a Q? about the big bearing four speed. Does it have a number or letter designation stamped on it? (Like 56A or 60L).
I know the 56A is a standard 120y 4 speed but i've got another here that looks heaps beefier but has similar dimensions to the stock unit and similar input and output shaft sizes. What do i look for for the Big bearing Bugger and does it have a larger input/output shaft ?????? And Also whats it out of ?

I tried that trick with the standard size converter worked on heaps , it ended up being a 3500 stally by a reputable firm. Needless to say it didn't work and when i spoke to the people that did it the information i got was this, because my car was so light (760Kgs) and diff gears so low (4.54:1 "Don't Ask !!!") and four cyls not producing much torque(compared to 6's or 8's) that it was very difficult to get it to stall up properly.(it wanted to go as soon as you put it in drive). I was running about a 35/75 cam at the time and it just took forever to get going but the shifts where fantastic. The only choice i had then was to go smaller in the converter size to make a better stally (or one that would work) but the only choice was a worked toyota item adapted to the Datsun = $650. So the manual went back in !!!! Well for the moment anyway. . Have a look at my profile for details of the rest of the car.Later.
