Thanks muchly for the replies. I spose I should have stated what I aim to achieve with the car, in order to get an appropriate answer.

First things first, I'm currently based in Melbourne(Hoppers Crossing to be exact...). Unfortunately the 120 is situated in Bendigo, so I only get the occasional weekend to work on it.

What I'm hoping to do is restore the car, give it a bit more poke(nothing huge, but enough to be fun), but I want to try and keep it to things I can do myself. I'm thinking along the lines of an electronic dizzy, and maybe EFI if it could be fitted. I'd also like to replace the exhaust, run a cold feed into the air filter and maybe do something about the carbies if efi is too much trouble(mind you - I know nothing about carbies...).

So with all this in mind, the A12 would be a more appropriate engine?

Thanks again.

I'm a newbie, both to this site, and the world of datsuns. I've managed to pick up a 120y from my sister in law for next to nothing, and i'm interested to see what I can do with it. My first question concerns the engine, and I'm probably asking a question asked many times before.

Is the standard A12 engine worth working with, or should I ditch it for something like an A15?

I'll come back with more questions as I get to them.

Cheers.
