Hello Everyone,

Its been quite a while since I've posted here. I have scheduled a return trip to Austin next month to repair and restore my '72 1200 sedan.

I am trying to somehow, get aftermarket sheet metal that usually comes out of Australia, through a US source.
I am needing a driver's door, both fenders, hood and valance.

Any leads or pointers would be helpful. PanelHouse will not ship to the US.

John

Hello Everyone,

Its been quite a while since I've posted here. I thought responding to this thread, might be a way to get started, since it involves 1200 body parts. The format isn't too intuitive here, and absent locating a 'new message' window, I jumped in here.

I am trying to somehow, get aftermarket sheet metal that usually comes out of Australia, through a US source.
I am needed driver's door, both fenders, hood and valance. Not too interested int he fiberglass hood, but wouldn't mind the steel version of th GX style hood.

Any pointers would be helpful. PanelHouse will not ship to the US.

New Brakes for White Zombie

Hello 1200 Fanatics,

It's been a while since I've posted here. For those who follow my electric 1200, White Zombie, we are preparing a potent version, soon to hit the 1/4 mile drag track. Its new LiPol Kokam battery pack is half the weight of the old lead acid pack it replaces while it has double the power - generating 926 'battery' hp! The pack also quadruples the energy storage from 5.7 kWh to 22.6 kWh, upping the car's previous range per charge from 35 'city' miles, to 110-120 miles of highway speed driving. The Zombie will be 400 lbs. lighter than the 11 second lead acid version, with a whole lot more power to tap into!

The reason for this post...I am upgrading the Ford 9 inch axle in back to Wilwood disc brakes, and because BF Goodrich has released a 50 series 15 inch version of the 215/60/14 G Force Drag Radials we've been using, we are switching to 15 inch wheels all around. In back, they'll be 15 X 8 American Racing Torque Thrust D, and in front, 15 X 4.5 versions of the same wheel fitted with 165/50/15s. I want to install a Nissan based 5 on 4.5 bolt hub (same bolt pattern as the rear Ford setup) and bigger discs to my 1200, then upgrade the calipers to Wilwwood. Have any of my fellow 1200 enthusiasts done such a brake/hub change? What works? Altima? Z Car? What struts and so forth do I need to accomplish this? Is it doable? In addition to this front end upgrade, I will have to make room in back for the new 225/50/15 Drag Radials on the 15 X 8 wheels - the backset is nearly identical to the current 14 X 6 wheels, but the new wider wheels and tires will go past the fender lips by about and inch to an inch and a half. Can I cut-loose the metal at the fender lip, and bow out the quarter panel, or do I need to add flares? If I have to add flares, what tasteful type flares are made for the 1200 sedan? I know a long time ago, you could get flares through Nissan comp.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback on this. To get up to speed on the car, there's a fun video at Youtube, if you use their search for 'Dow Kokam'. At my web page <www.plasmaboyracing.com> under 'Photos' I've got pictures of the new lithium modules up, and there's a 4 part story at 'Wayland's Words' all about what it took to get this incredibly powerful LiPol Kokam setup.

I am quite sure the car will run 10s at just half the available battery power dialed in. Once we conquer the 10s, the car will then be prepped to head toward the 9's with the addition of a second .6 megawatt Zilla Z2K controller and a bigger Siamese 9 motor replacing the current Siamese 8.

Looking forward to getting advice form all you 1200 experts!

Hi Again,

>I've always wanted to see the 'zombie' in action that >thing is a friggin rocket!

May I use this as a quote on my web page?

>11.5 over the 1/4 mile, thats awesome!

Yeah, it ran an 11.466 @ 114.08 mph, and that was was a terrible launch (too much wheel spin). If we could have practiced a few times with that borrowed lithium pack, we were fairly certain a high 10 was in the cards...oh well, maybe this year.

>I've always wanted to see the 'zombie' in action

Go to Youtube and search 'White Zombie Speed Records'. This another agreat video shot at the same time as the OFG you just watched. In fact, in the one scene where we are at the empty trunk area getting ready to install the lithium pack, if you watch closely, you can see the two guys from the Speed Channel at the left side of the screen. Their video also has me on camera saying 'That's racing', the same line the OFG guys caught in their video.
Both shows however, missed the 11.4 run against a stock 1200...but that run is viewable at Youtube as well.

Glad you all seem to enjoy this latest video. Thanks for the kind remarks!

See Ya...John Wayland

Hello 1200 Friends,

My electric 1200 was recently featured on the OPB TV show 'Oregon Filed Guide'. You can view it here:

Hi 1200 freaks,

Thought I'd drop in again for an update on how White Zombie did this past summer with the lithium ion battery pack. Our best ET was an 11.466 @ 114.08, with a best 60 ft. of 1.58 sec. With only one chance to blast through the 11.5 mark before being thrown off the track due to no roll cage & firesuit (we have both now), we cranked the controller power up a little too much and had a very bad launch and loss of traction at high speed as well. With suspesnsion mods and a new higher powered lithium pack, we plan on running 10's in '08.

Hello 1200 freaks out there!

Just wanted to say 'Hi' to all my fellow 1200 enthusiasts.
A bit of a correction...with the lead acid pack, the car has a 50 mile range, not just 20 miles. The version with the super light 175 lb. lithium pack that David followed to the track also had about 50 miles range. If only lithium would come down in price A 400 lb. lithium pack could easily do 130 miles or so. 900 lbs. would do 300 miles per charge. Keep in mind, that the car's normal lead acid pack weighs 844 lbs. and still runs the car into the 11s.

If we get a lithium sponsor, we're pretty sure 10s are in the bag.

It was great to set the new record running with another 1200 on the track!
