Hello -

This fellow:

http://www.piner.com/japco/

purports to have fiberglass flares and such for the 1200, but the photo links on the site are broken.

Perhaps he'd be willing to sell you the molds, if he doesn't have a lot of demand. I tried to find his place last time I was in NC, USA, but had
trouble locating him.

Don't know how well the parts would travel to NSW...

Good luck in your hunting...

The corvair wheels may need a 1/4 inch spacer to clear the brake caliper brackets in the front (They have zero offset, as I remember. Funny, they fit my 510, but not my 1200.) The
ET slot mags I had on my '71 coupe had the same problem...

Thanks for the info!

I had found a way to mount the 1488 motor, using the 310 exhaust manifold and a slightly-notched A14 - B210 oil pan, such that the frame didn't have to be modified. But then my
GX SU's didn't fit under the bonnet. So I'm thinking of relocating the center section forward.
But the Datsun driveshaft bolted right up to the MG rear, even the rear flange mated perfectly!

Your car is a lot more serious than mine... Got any pics?

Thanks!

Did you modify the front crossmember in your Midget when you installed the Datsun A-
Series engine in it?

I need additional carb clearance, and it would help to drop the motor a little...

Thanks for anything you can tell me...

In the US, the Nissan 210 w/A12A engine, circa 1979-1982, competes against the original 1200 in the SCCA GT5 road racing class. I had heard from a 1200 GT5 stalwart that several 210's
had been disqualified for using the original 1200 crank in an A12A (gotta use original parts, or billet-made - can't swap parts among engines. Strange world.) My understanding is the
A12A guys are upset because to successfully run the same RPM, they have to have a custom crank made, rather than just using the A12 forged crank.

A12A has a different bore (slightly larger, giving 1237cc instead of 1169cc), and lacks the lovely forged crank found in the A12. The A12A crank
is a casting.

Marvelous! - I painted my engine MG green and installed a rubber-bumper octagon emblem in the oil filler cap, and placed an MGB engine ID plate over the Nissan insignia
on the valve cover. Unfortunately, mine's not finished yet. I'll post some pics when I can scan'em.

Perhaps I shouldn't even talk about this...

I have an SU setup complete except for the air cleaner - it is on the 1488 that I installed in an MG midget. I am not inclined to sell it at this time, but I have this advice...

The SU setup was sold in this country through Datsun (later Nissan) Competition Department in California. There are a few floating around on the east coast. The manifold is the hardest
part to find, as it is the unique part of the system. Any HS2 1.5 inch carbs will fit, with some linkage creativity.

I may be able to dig up some email addy's for you to try. There are some true A-engine fanatics in the Washington DC/Maryland area of the US, but they are dwindling in number.

I might entertain an even swap for Weber side draught setup with manifold in excellent condition... Not to be an a**hole about it, (I know what the relative retail values were when
new) but the SU's are very rare now, and mine have almost no miles on them.

I loved the 1200 I ran in SCCA drivers school in 1988, and I enjoy lurking this club. Keep up the good work, dudes!
