LOTS when you consider the intake manifold. The blocks are similar size, but the DE heads and
manifold are much bigger.

Here'a a 1600 with w VG30E

Here's my 1600 with a VG30DE
http://www.datsuns.com/red/vg30de-510.jpg

The DE is also about 30lbs heavier. The tradeoff is the DE has 60 more HP.

My VG30DE has NVCS - an early adaptation of Nissan variable valve timing. How does it compare to something similar?

The closest information I have for that is also a comprison of VG30E to VG30DE (4v/cyl vs 2v/cyl) on this page:
http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/ohv_vs_ohc.htm
and specifically
http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/sohc-vs-dohc-tq.gif
A little more than half way down the page you'll see a dyno chart. Note that at every RPM the DE makes more torque, even though they both isplace 3.0L. How much of the spread is due to
NVCS as opposed to just plain better flowing heads I do not know. Do notice the torque jump at 4250rpm - I bet the DE is changing cam timing right at the point, as it makes a jump right as
the SHC engine is falling off.

I hope this is useful in some fashion...

My project is currently on hold pending further development of our 510. Probably next year before
anything happens on it.

I've thought about this before.

I think the biggest problem you'll run into is getting the car moving from a stop. Modern 600cc motorcycles make up to 120hp, but not really enough torque to move a car
until maybe 7000rpm. A 150hp 1200cc motorcycle would be a better choice, but even then they don't make as much torque down low as a stock 1200 engine does.

It takes hp AND torque to make a car move. It sure would sound bitchin!!

As of 2002, we get the turbo 227hp car. In 2003 we're supposed to have the STi (300hp)
version available as well.

"...of course the dealer wouldn't let them rev it over 4,000 rpm he must've been too scared it would break...". You're hypothesizing here, maybe the last test driver he allowed to rev
past 4000rpm put a car into a tree so he's a little gun-shy... I DOUBT it's because it would break!

It's impossible to judge how fast a car is -especially a turbo one - if you're only allowed to spin it to 4000rpm! The salesman's ignorance or paranoia got in the way there.

How many cars can you rev to less than 4000rpm and still have fun?

I haven't driven a WRX (yet), but I have been in an Impreza RS (only 165hp) and it was a fun little car. It also depends on what someone is looking for in a car.

We're probably going to trade in our 2000 Maxima SE next year, and the WRX is on our short (and it's the only non-Nissan) list of repalcements. Others are the SE-R Spec-V and the new
Altima SE.

Even w/out driving one I'd put on in a "fun" test vs anything else in it's price range.

In the US anyhow, it's one of very few new cars offered today that looks good on paper, much less in real performance. It currently has ZERO competition in the US right now.

Well, the carmag tests I've seen of the WRX put it less than 1/2 second behind my 230hp 510 in the 1/4mi. Pretty darn good for a modern
affordable car these days.

What I want to know is if the pilots had their seatbels on and if the 767 airbags deployed, would
they have been ok?

Thanks. I even started a "Things not to do in the U.S. immediately after a terrorist attack".

1) Do not try and rent a Ryder truck with no ID on you.
2) Do not act like Tatoo and say "da plane! da plane!" while pointing at the sky.
3) Do not try and tell airport security the knife in your pocket is to trim your moustache on the
plane.
4) Do not dress up as Ossama Bin Ladden for Halloween.
5) Do not go to the local flight school and ask for instructions on how to fly "a 757 or 767, I don't
care which".
6) Don't ask rescue workers "can I search the rubble for PC's and parts?"

Some people deal with stress by being angry, others have to think of humor to take the mind off what
happened...

Mareo,

The nuke boming of Japan was precipitated by WWII. Japan was forcibly expanding its empire in conjunction with Germany - comparing that to what happened yesterday is ridiculous.
Even the first bombing of Japan by conventional bombs was not unexpected - they were at war and their leaders were not surrendering.

Pres. Johnson had Kennedy killed? Vietnam war was for Texas? Wake America up to what the government is doing to its people? Last time I checked we're the ones VOTING them in
there.

Now there's guys jacking gas up to $5 gallon because there's going to be an "oil shortage". Damn, I didn't realize the WTC was drilling for oil. Unnecessary paranoia.

Having said that, if someone's in a country they don't like, I have a simple solution - MOVE. Me? I like it here and I'm stayin'.
