changing a ca18det with an oil cooler above oil filter has an oil gallery blocked with a brass plug (in the block) but off the engine that doesnt have the oil cooler it has a ball bearing valve(in the block) does any one know what the valve is for and weather the cooled one can be used on the block with the bearing and vise versa thanx in advance

sounds like a pressure release valve or something. no idea on wether they can be swapped, but i dare say that they coodnt

cheers ronald i found out that it is a pressure release valve to by pass the filter if it gets clogged (an engine with dirty oil is better than one with none!) and they r interchangeable but i didnt want to swap them until i new for sure
