Hi guys and gals, Just wondering when the 1200 was first releised in Australia. I've got a sedan that iI bought from the original owner a few years ago and she says that she had to wait for it for two months. It is plated " JUNE 1970" and has the jap style mirrors on the guards. I'm suspecting that this car was one of the first 1200s sold, at least in South Australia. Also can you tell by the body number what number down the line at datsun it was? Cheers for your help. Adam.

I have a 9/70 2 dr sedan, US spec. I'd have to get the vin in the morn.
The month/yr is on the B pillar. I'm also looking for vin # history. Sounds like cars were made in Japan & sent in [vin] groups to other countries. Hard to tell so far.

Quote:
The way I remember it, a VIN [Vehicle Identity Number] is an internationally agreed format number[?] of seventeen alpha & numeric characters that encodes some details of the vehicle, including it's country of manufacture amongst other things. They did not come into use untill long after Datsun 1200 production had ended. Might help
