Since i have been to slack to document any previous buildups of my other cars I though that I should properly document this one.

The story starts with the search for a kb10, I found one in adelaide (where since i have found antother, and i have recently seen yet another one advertised in just cars, seems like they're breeding them over in SA)
the owner assured me that it was a daily driver that had the engine rebuilt not too long ago with a cam and downdraught webber and that the only problem might be sticky brakes, once home i found that the engine was poor - it was in desperate need of a tune, the manifold leaked air like a fishnet ballon and the clutch and thrust bearing were shot!.
Here's some photo's from the previous owner

Here's an interior shot - it's in very good condition!

The plan is
-rebuild the motor, new cam, pistons, bearings, bored, balanced, rollerrockers and dbl valve springs (thanks mike)
-Doubble sidedraught webbers (thanks dattoman)
- a toyota 5 cog box
- disc brakes at front (again cheers dattoman)
- electronic dizzy
- H165 diff with LSD (cheers topgear)
- some superlites 14" with sticky rubber
- rebuild front and rear suspension (already sourced upper and lower balljoints), add a panhard rod or possibly watts linkage to the rear. more research is nessesary on this one.

I have already started some of these mods and uploaded a few photos when i get some more time I shall add them to the post with more info.

Comments and suggestions are much appriciated.

Cheers

Ben

Thanks! - don't worry I drove around for many years with the grand canyon of dash cracks on the sedan.

Toyo box is sussed! With the dellow bellhousing and a new tailshaft the only other thing to sort out is the mounts, I

So here's a few of the goodies for the coupe.

Here's a pic of the Disc brake conversion kit (this one was for my sedan but they are essentialy the same), I've misplaced the photo's of the kit fitted to the coupe as soon as i find them I shall pop them up

here are my twin webbers awaiting fittment.
these once saw duty on dattoman's 1000 2dr sedan race car but soon will find themselves under the kb10's bonnet.

Last of all the H165 LSD Center the plan is to use a cutdown 180b wagon housing - that i am yet to purchase off dattoman - hmm i seem to see a trend here with a lot of my parts comming from him - many thanks for parts and info neil!!

Pretty soon after getting the car home i decided a full mechanical overhaul was in order, since most of the bodywork and interior was already good i've decided to leave it alone for the time being.

First stop were the brakes, a dattoman kit was installed on the front and new shoes and wheel cyls on the back. you can just see the calipers poking out through

Next it was time to tackle the engine and after sourcing some info from the forum and a few members i started getting in parts - pistons and gasket kit came first followed shortly after by a cam (another dattoman part)
specs as follows:
Camshaft Engineering cam
Grind 2513, 220 thou lift at lobe. 296 deg duration
inlet opens 40 deg before TDC closes 76 deg after BDC
exhaust opens 40 deg before BDC closes 76 deg after TDC

Next GX doubble valve springs came along from dundee1000 and some Yella Terra Roller rockers were ordered in a 1.55:1 ratio

At this point the block was removed dissasembled and sent off along with some parts for machining and balancing.

Here you can see a few bits and pieces ready to be put back together.
Included is a DVSone electronic dizzy a lightened flywheel and exceedy clutch and housing.

And this is the block - bored, machined ready for all that nicely balanced gear to go back in.

Here's the block all together and painted up.
i must say it looks mighty clean and neat!

This one shows the Toyota 2T gearbox with the dellow housing fitted.

Well thats all for now, just waiting on the rockers and pushrods to complete the engine package

cheers

Ben

Good move on the 180B rear end & I suspect that a 910 Bluebird one might be even better.

The 1200 ute rear is a bit hard to find when you want one & a bit on the expensive side as well.
It's still too wide for a B10 & would need reducing in width anyway. Worse, the axle shaft is reduced to the minor diameter of the spline just behind the spline & this leaves nothing to respline if the ute axle is shortened the 1-1/4" that would be necessary to replicate the B10 axle.

The Bluebird rear, on the other hand is much easier to find, should be plenty cheaper, & is fortunately much wider.
The cost to remove 1" per side from an axle housing would be the same as 4", so no problem there, but the upside is the axles.

Much more needs to be removed from the longer axle & this means that the small diameter part is bypassed, puting the spline right back where the shaft diameter is nice & big again. Plenty of meat to work with.

The 180B wagon rear should be just fine, but check lenghts first before spending actual cash money on machine work.

With a long Panhard bar, correctly set up, & with limited suspension movement, I doubt that you could tell the difference.
