Cam Chain Timing clarification

Somebody clarify for me: The illustration in Tech Wiki has a note about the piston at TDC and the crankshaft keyway pointing up. Well with the key way pointed to 4 O'clock and the timing marks on both sprockets in the correct position per the service manual, the piston is nowhere near TDC. Additionally all three service books I have make no mention about having the piston at TDC as any part of installing the cam chain procedure. One other note with the piston at TDC the marks on the crank sprocket and cam sprocket due point to towards each other.
So why does the illustration on our site mention having the piston at TDC for the timing chain?? What am I missing here? Tom

Dave, Evan
Thanks I have everything lined as pictured. Also the second pic with the dots pointing towards each other is indeed TDC. It's been at least 18 years since I've done an A-series Timing Chain. The notes on our site just started second guessing myself. I have a degree wheel on the motor as part of the new cam install so if I'm off it will show up for sure. Tom

had this problem.
after changing the chain and gear, the engine started to foul all the plugs, black deposit... reset the chain once but the problem persists. changed the carburettor and still the problem not gone. the car is under the shed now... You can view topic.
