So going the shortened KYB Golf/Rabbit inserts and ive got S13 Cusco strut tops and the thread on the inserts is way to big to fit in the strut tops.

How have you guys got around this issue?
Is there another off the shelf shorter insert i can use?

Cheers,
Daniel

New or old cusco tops? You might be able to swap pillow ball bearings or the whole bearing carrier part with another one that fits- its only 4 Allen key bolts ;)

not sure how old it is. They are second hand. Can throw a pic up if that helps.

Any idea where i can get the pillow ball bearings from? Would a place like Statewide or CBC bearings stock that #OOPS#?

Cheers.

Didn't know if new or 2nd hand all good. Check with suspension specialist (not pedders FFS)
Or find some through jap importer that fit shock and may swap over. Cheaper probably too

Worst case slowly lathe down shock but if gas filled the heat could cause an explosion under the pressure

are the strut tops and strut inserts all second hand, or are the strut inserts new? If you can't get them to work and the strut inserts are new, I'll buy em off you if it's any help, so you can get other ones that will fit if that happens to be the solution (as long as they fit inside early strut tubes themselves, the thread at the top won't affect my application

The insert (only bought one cause i wasnt sure if it would work) is brand new. The Strut tops are 2nd hand.

So whats the hot tip guys?
I wanna have this thing slammed using the 120Y struts and wanna run the cusco S13 Strut tops. What inserts should i buy? Really cant be #OOPS#ed machining them down, the lathe i have access to isnt big enough and i do wanna go tapping a new thread on it and all that jazz. Surely there is an easier way of doing this.

cheers!!!

Take the length of the vw shock and find something that fits the top

ok, so does anyone know if the Koni MR2 rear shocks have the same size thread as a stock 120Y insert and will work with the Cusco strut tops?

Thankyou.

jmac, if i cant get it to work you can buy it off me if you are keen. Think it cost me $120 or something, you can have it for $100 if you want, got it off US ebay if your chasing another one.

The thread on the insert doesn't matter, just need different nut but the one that holds it into strut tube can be a pain, unless you have a giant tap and die to do it

Any chance of a pic of the strut threaded section at the tip and the strut top 'hole' in the same picture on an angle or something so it is easy to see the difference in sizes?

or could you measure the threaded section outer diameter and the strut top 'hole' diameter and provide the measurements (metric or imperial is fine) to give an idea of just how big the difference is.
