Indicator contacts and adding relay/s

I'm really tired of every few months, having to remove steering wheel, stalk cluster and cleaning the contacts. So i thought why not put in a relay between the flasher unit and switch. The problem I realised is that power goes to the flasher first then gets divided by the switch to go either right or left.
So my questions are:
1. Do I have to use 1 relay on each circuit from the switch in order to prevent all power going through the contacts?
2. Has anyone done anything different to stop arcing, like adding an ignition condenser or something?!

It only takes about 15mins every time I have to do it, what with me having a dedicated steering wheel puller I made, but it's getting tedious!

Thanks

None of my 1200 indicator switches ever suffered from burnt contacts, even after 40+ years of use ... so a relay is unnecessary

Note that if the contact points are cleaned/filed with a ferrous type sandpaper, they may foul again.
TIPS:
* use a points file
* or a stone
* or paper
* Make sure there is no oil or grease on the points

I think there is no condenser in the indicator wiring circuit, however the ignition system uses one: at the distributor (normally replace every time the distributor points are replaced)

The only problem i encountered was they would short occasionally, necessitating a removal and reinstallation and replaced of the fuse. This was due to the switch becoming loose. Solution: ensure the switch screw is tight enough. Specifically, these screws

Thanks for the reply. Yes I think I probably got too enthusiastic the first time I cleaned them!

I can get a new switch for R399 (+-$22) https://www.takealot.com/indicator-swi ... 00-1971-2008/PLID93211413
So I'll probably get that. Hopefully will fit on 120y.
