I think it's a bit of a crime. It's a mod that can't be undone. It depends on whether the car is a weekend showcar or a daily driver. For a daily driver, comforts like a sunroof are justified. Depends what your goal for the car is.
I wouldn't do it. I like a good smooth roof line. The flipper windows direct enough air flow for summer, especially when the rear windows are wound down a bit. Besides, it's a good excuse to stop for a rest and something to eat/drink if your car is not too luxurious, especially on long trips. My 2 cents. Chris

Its a daily driver but maybe the 1/4 windows are enough.......if I do it will be dark tint glass with the hinge at the front...
Dont want to do it if I dont like it after a while.......ruin a perfectly fine 1000 wagon

It wouldnt suit the car unless your trying to make it retro. An old car with all new stuff in it like central locking and power windows i would tubb my 1000 before i put a sun roof in it.
But it is your car and not mine so do as you please.

Well I have had a sunroof in my old Fairmont for 20 years and I reckon outside of the first 6 months we would have been lucky to use it a dozen times.
It is either too cold, too windy, too hot or too noisy. It is not that I don't like it , it is just no where near as good and practical as you think it will be. So there, that's my rant. ![]()

As i have writen before, i have never personally seen one that didn't eventually leak, & once you are sick of it, it's a mod that you are stuck with unless you dump a big spend on it just to get back what you have now.
Believe it or not, there was an airconditioning option for the Datsun 1000 ["Kit, Cooler, Room, Dash- opt all, except coupe Part No. 27600-10025, supercedes to 27600-27702 to Sep '68 & finally,27600-H0100 from oct '68, Exc Coupe] & even 20 years ago, it was NOT available in Australia. Bummer. I have not found a part number for coupes, so perhaps they were never made available. If anyone has even so much as a compressor mounting bracket for the A10 or early A12 engine, i would dearly love to hear from them. Those who use the late model A12, or the A14 & A15 can simply use the sunny setup. To provide room for the compressor seems to be the reason why the altenator was moved to the wrong side, & that necessitated moving the distributor, the fuel pump & the engine mount. What a waste, it was perfect the first time round. I will aircon my coupe if i can get the right bits to do it without cutting anything. Chris
