#1 A14 & A15 Into Datsun 1000
Weekend1000 Posted on: 2009/4/22 2:39
I took a mates 1000 over the pits today. The inspector was cool and even said he would be happy to have a thou as a daily!
I asked about the legality of fitting a 1400 or 1500 in Western Australia and surprisingly he said it would be OK. So Guess what is going in the KB10!

The cops were happy with the car in general--said my mate's mechanic did a great job with the steering and new brakes but he still FAILED it because my lazy - arse mate didn't bother to connect the heater!
So we all know what Mike will be doing tomorrow!

Almost forgot:
The inspector suggested to keep it all original except for maybe a Monster Tacho

So you reckon he said it was OK without engineers papers?
Im sweating over this a bit myself as the wagon has an A15 in it, even got to the point of booking an appointment with the engineer before canceling coming to the conclusion that running the gauntlet at vicroads would be cheaper than an engineer...around $70 vs $1000, no possibility of resale just yet so I have no motive getting certificate for that.

When I went to get my ute regoed it was slated as a high-risk IMPORT inspection because it was from Tasmania...go figure!
I remember stressing every detail, even borrowed a pedal rubber off Ange, when it came to go over the pits, they didnt even look inside the car, took down engine #, Vin and said thanks for coming...hoping for the same luck this time round.

If I get knocked back then its off to the Engineers, a gamble im willing to take... Stay tuned!!!

Yep, I expected him to say a 1200 would be OK but an engineer would be needed for anything bigger. When I take my lazy - arse mate's car back over the pits, I will ask the same question and see what gives.
If keeping it legal was going to cost $1000 to fit an A15, I would just bung in an A12 instead.
It is not a fear of a yellow sticker but a fear of my insurance Co walking away from me in case of a bingle!

Hmm ya got a point, but if were talking legalities, is a verbal assurance by a pit guy enough to clear you of culpability?
