If you own a pair of sidies, Su's or DCOE type, just buy a carb sync tool, best tool for helping tune carbs, you'll be suprised how much difference it will make having them balanced properly.
As for going out of tune, normally its the linkage anyway.

I have twin Solex's on the 2000 they have been there from the factory for forty years, been tuned twice in the last ten years, (cost bugger all to get done) and have provided excellent performance and reliability.

Ok, I know you are a bit short on carbies so I will sell them cheap.
They look better in the photo. Attach file: SU.JPG (34.64 KB)![]()

It seems strange that the Mikuni-solexes are cheaper down under... Here in the USA they sell used about 20-30% more expensive than new Webers! Ddgonzal is right on the money when he said the Solexes were the #1 choice for vintage Datsuns. No self respecting Datsun racecar would run Webers when Mikunis are available. Although those carbs are discontinued, parts and jetting is still available from Rebello race engines and Wolf Creek Racing. It has been my understanding that for the same choke size, a Weber will flow slightly more than a Mikuni, and a Dellorto will outflow either(Doesn't really matter though, 'cause you can just go up in choke size.)The Mikuni, however does stay synced and in tune best, plus they're super easy to change chokes and jetting. I had a pair of 44 Mikunis on my 510 for 4 years and they never needed adjustment! They'll be going on my 1200 road race car.

Here they got a bad rap with the factory fitment of the to the toyota celica in the 40mm variety covered in anti pollution rubbish. From what I see in japan it is almost all they use. It all comes down to product knowledge. And alot of the top blokes who really know their stuff are'nt in the trade any more as there is not enough money. Shame really. I wouldn't mind giving a set of twin mikuni's a go.
