Depends what gauges you are using. If you are using the CA ones, you'll need to make sure you have the dash loom as some wires go to the engine bay, and others go to the ECU.
Most Datto guys would use the 1200 wiring for dash, starter, alternator (with a few mods) and leave the ECU to engine loom pretty much untouched. Pretty much would do the engine at the same time you'd do your headlights and alternator stuff. That way you can plan the points where you'll put connectors and how many terminals they need.

use the original 1200 loom for all the lights, there's a very small number of wires (like maybe 2 or 3) that need to be connected with the original 1200 loom under the dash
pretty much lay in the CA loom connecting to motor parts and ecu and then give the ecu some signals like ignition on and cranking starter motor from the original 1200 wiring the gauges are quite dependant on the choices you make really you can wire the coil packs past the back of the tacho to get that to read, the speedo will run off a cable from the gearbox (depending what gearbox you run on how to get the right cable), the fuel gauge will work if you have the original fuel tank in the car, the temp gauge is probably better to be replaced by another gauge, the alternator light and oil light will work and can be connected via the 1200 loom in the engine bay (also the starter signal can be used here via a relay to boost its power)
