Well you sorta need em. Or maybe cut them down a bit.

I'm pretty sure you can tap them off with a hammer, just check that they haven't been tack welded on first.

TO lower it you normally flip the rear springs and cut down the bump stops with a hack saw. Try cutting then in half and see how that goes. Then cut more off as you wish.

You can take them out but steel rubbing on steel isn't too good.

Why on earth would you want to do that?

When properly lowered, the distance from the front spring leaf to the compression bump stop remains unchanged.
Do not lower the front suspension by any significant degree as the little suckers get a bit squeezy in there if you are running wheels that are much bigger than standard & the limit of legal lowering id defined by the distance from the ground to the center of the headlight. It doesn't take much to reach this limit.

I believe that the rubber block beteen the lower suspension arm & the spring is still available & if so, then get a pair.
The method of lowering is to cut down the overall height of this block by a small amount & refit it.
If you screw it up, or get pinged by the law, it's always good to know that you have the right parts at hand to restore the front suspension height.

If you don't have the spare suspension blocks & you overdo it, ...... you're screwed.

My reason for asking how to remove the bumpstops is by the time it is lowered to the amount i desire then the springs and bumpstops will be in contact

There are two methods of lowering the front suspension.

1. Dismantle the front end, remove the front spring, reset the front spring, refit the whole thing & cut the compression bump stop.

2. Remove the rubber block between the lower suspension arm & the spring. Remove about 1/2" from the top with a hacksaw. Refit & drive away.

The lower suspension arm now sits closer to the spring, which means that the wheel now sits higher up in relation to the chassis than before. The other way of saying the same thing is that the chassis now sits lower in relation to the lower suspension arm, & therefore the ground, than before.

The top part of the front spring still retains its clearance with the bump stop.
Refer to the illustration to understand how this all works.
