my comments aren't aimed just at you D it's just that this sort of topic pops up here every six months or so and there are always people saying it's impossible etc when they don't really know

i'd believe 200 BHP from an A15, sure as hell wouldnt be cheap to do, wouldnt last long and wouldnt be of any use when its not at WOT...but it would be possible
much like making over 300rwhp from a boosted A12, lots of people didnt believe that when it first popped up

I believe it. And well said NZDM.
The A12 in my B10 punched 95.6 HP on the dyno, have the sheet here somewhere. Stopped producing power past 8500rpm though so you're right on the mark with the WOT comment. It's fairly obvious when driving it that most of it's power is up high. Anyway 200hp A15 for sure...

I recall reading that in Cosworth's early years (early 1960s) they achieved something like 110bhp from the humble Ford Anglia 105E engine. This was a 1-Ltr, Non-crossflow head (ie ports all on same side like Datsun A series), cast iron head (unlike Datsun's supierior alloy head), 3-bearing crank ... and on just a single down-draft carbureter! (ie not twin side-drafts). Clearly this would have been a very peaky engine and I think it was fitted to a (no doubt light) single seater of the time.
I believe 200bhp is achievable from an A15 (but certainly not easy or cheap). As to drivability, I believe Rick Bone's 207bhp car is EFI etc which would help considerably vs carbs.

Janspeed produced a 110hp A10 EFI Engine that powered a Cherry, 988cc's of push-rod pride!
Once again high-rpm power (10,000rpm). I have the article here somewhere (written by Paul Davies). That car that belongs to Rick Bone is truly amazing.

Not saying its impossible but still find it hard to believe.
If an a15 can make over 200hp I take my hat off and in a perfect world Id love to see it compete with steve newings a15 but that will never happen as Steve moved to the CA then onto something else. The thing that Steves car had was that he rarely took it past 8500rpms and said he designed it for a healthier mid range rather than all out peak hp. Now Im going to keep saying its hard to believe and hopefully this great site that has so many datsun a series fans will get a treat from the owner or a few pics at least of the mythical deity.

I'd like to see what mine produces with some tweaks
I have a dyno sheet for 98 hp at wheels The engine at that time was running low comp (around 10:1) The huge camshaft and 1.65 roller rockers would have been bleeding off dynamic comp significantly and the engine definaty needs another couple of units of comp to work hard. I'll be trying for around 12:1 or so This was with a pair of 40 DCOE webers I do have the EFI system off J Taylors car I haven't used then which should add abit more poke than the old webers I would say in reality I could build at healthy 180+ HP at flywheel engine with some fairly simple yet expensive changes to mine Dry sump , knife edged crank , higher comp ,efi , just for starters I think yes it can be done... I believe it could even be reliable in a street car.... I'll find out when I can afford to make the changes to the engine sitting under the bench

D, Rick Bone is the same - if i recall the 207hp was made at 8500rpm.

my understanding is that there is no such thing as an accurate dyno, as the whole theory of calculating power using a dyno is quite innaccurate by nature By nature is is possible. But in practice it is not. The problem is that they almost never calibrate shop dynos against an impartial standard. They need to do more than add a rain sensor and follow the manufacturer's instructions. SAE Certified Horsepower uses a calibrated engine dyno and is very accurate, and the results are directly comparable to other SAE CH figures. Most auto manufacturers have not totally switched to SAE CH yet, but most have to some extent. You can view topic.
