#1 E-Series Opto-Electric Distributor

The famous E15ET distributor has always puzzled me. It doesn't seem to have anything inside.

So today at the wreckers I saw an E16I and opened the distributor. It has an interesting opto-wheel inside and Mitsubishi sensor.

It came in the KPB12, it is a Sentra (Sunny family) with E16I throttle body injection, which bolts on like a Hitachi carb.

The distributor is a Mitsubishi T4T type.

Compare to the more usual E-series distributor below, which has the same guts (HEI module, trigger wheel, etc) as the 1990s 1200 pickup. It is the Hitachi D4R Distributor type.

Another thing: the distributor has no vacuum advance mechanism and I didn't see any mechanical advance. I think it might be a trigger wheel for the ECU.

yesI think you're right. awesome to know such a thing exists, it's a pity I've never heard on an E16i or ever seen a car like the one that distributor came out of

The Pulsar NX Turbo has this same distributor (E15ET).

E16 is just like E15. They came with single carb (E16S) or with central EFI (E16I). The car in the photo is a B12 coupe, maybe they sold the sedan in your country?

The crank angle sensor is a thin aluminum disc, which is actually perforated 360 times. In this photo you can make out the screw under the disc, seen through the perforations.

Also is the sensor for the wheel.

I wonder if this distributer can be adapted to the a series without too much pain?

The more i read about a E-series, the more im thinking about using that instead of the A-series in the 1k.

Yes, all you have to do is swap the A-series gear to the distributor and cut off a portion of the adjuster tab (which is cast aluminum on the E-series).

Dozens of club members have done this and are running E-series electronic ignition distributors in their Datsun 1200s.

Does that include the one above with the CAS built in? That would make my fuel injection setup a little eaiser to setup.

maybe a E-series is the way forward.

Sure, that one will fit too. Don't know how you would use it, as it has no vacuum advance and no mechanical advance.

And the sensor is not a like the generic ones...
