bloody hell! a/E/GA16 engine. What a frankenstien! and I love it! Just one question.

How do you plan to drive the OHC? or is there a simple solution that i am missing?

82mm pistons, thats pretty streched out. 79mm is the usual max i thought for the a14/15. still at 1860cc, thats impresive from a A14 or at least as far as everyone else knows. Awsome work.

So E16 crank, in A14 block, with GA16de head. right. sounds like a project. Let us know how it all works out. It love to see how this ends up.

I have a A14 with A15 crank and 76mm Mazda flattop pistons in my Datsun 1200 rallysprint car. The engine has a ported head with standard valves, semi cam, twin webers and 4-2-1 extractors. The engine produces nearly 150hp and revs to 8500rpm. The car has been driven very hard on both gravel, tarmac and ice.... only problems has been the clutch and a blown headgasket! If you ask me I think this is the best and cheapest way for you to get a good engine!

Ah, but that built A14 doesn't come cheap. E15ET is free in some cases (for example Casey was given a free Pulsar). All you gotta do is cut a hole in the firewall, bolt it in, and straighten out the wiring. A bit of work of course, but free is free.

Now I have read all the posts! The cheapest way is of course to mount the E15ET engine if he will get it for free, needs some custom solution but it´s possible!

DD E series inlet manifold points the wrong way, so you will need to do some alloy cutting and welding to make it right...so if you are doing that i dont see it as a whole heap more effort to make an inlet for the A series
and sure it has more power than a stock a15...but who does an engine conversion just to stay with the stock power of an engine

also the free engine as i think D said will probably need work, and if you are rebuilding say the engine and turbo then thats effort that could be spent buying a better turbo to suit the A series and rebuilding an A series to suit boost

if the thread was about the absolute cheapest way to get a tiny bit more power, then the free E15et has it. but you could always find a free ca18det and put it in yourself and then say thats the cheapest best option as it has heaps more power and is still free

if you compare an a15 to an e15 they both would need the same work
to make the same power. An e15 cannot make 150hp easily and neither
can the A15 so relatively speaking the same is required for both.
A turbo changes the power and in most cases whether pushrod or ohc
the playing field is reduced further as the worst engines in NA setups
will work very well with a turbo. The e15 has no advantage in my eyes
if you have one of each in your shed. Id prefer the A series and beyond
that go the qg18de or ca18de for a real evolutionary upgrade.

80 HP vs 115 HP is not just a "tiny bit more".

Certainly it will take some sweat and tears to fit the E-series, but if you can do the work yourself it is cheap. One guy just cut the firewll a bit to fit the engine distriubtor cap, etc.

A much easier swap is L20B. It has so much more torque that the peak HP rating is not comparable to the smaller engines.

Purpose of this thread? Let's ask the OP.

115hp is turbo E series an A series turbo will
make more a-la-topgear 100kwatw.

115hp is the restricted hp of the ga16 in NA vs e15et

L series too heavy/big for a K but good for a 1200.

i'd like to see what an e15et makes when dyno'd, then i can say its not worth an engine conversion to get X amount of power

L20b still isnt easy to fit to a 1200, CA is much easier
