rsr100 yea ive been watching your build aswell and was sure it was your other 1200 ute you had for sale once before that i thought might aswell buy that instead of starting on mine. after i started on the clip i actually thought i should of just unpicked the original rear chassis at the back of cab and at rear and just cut 200 or so out of the channels that joined the rails to move rails in and put some decent tyres under keeping the leafs and use caltracs. with the engineering side of things i guess in qld here somethings just get missed haha

Hi,
nice build with some pretty serious mods. Have you thought about adding a gusset to the 90 degree join at the rear clip where it meets the vertical and also fish plating the welds on the kick up? the std frame branches off into a Y shape to retain strength in addition to the monocoque style of being spot welded to the floor. It looks as if the entire weight and forces on the rear clip would transfer through to that attachment point, moreso if you are planning to put some serious power through that. The 4 link coil overs being a long distance a way from that point would also place load on that point every time you hit a bump, exacerbated by the leverage effect. I'm doing a bit of research now in planning a hotrod chassis and these are the normal minimum recommendations when cutting a chassis. I'm not trying to be clever, your work looks great, but if you aren't going through engineering, it may be worth a thought. Cheers Ed

Good ideas ed74mnd will deffiately look into it, I fully understand what your talking about, where your talking about putting a gusset at the vertical, it's actually has on the front side cos I was going
to run the 4 link bracket on the back side of that vertical but changed it. I have a mate up here who builds rods as well so will double check with him again with my work. Thanks for your concern.

yeah unpicking the chassis would be an option but the new clip is unreal mate, everything works and theres no need to
work around the existing structure. gotta love qld!lol keep it up mate gonna be a gun ride!

I thought a 4 link bracket in that area could have acted as a gusset at the same time but it looks well thought so Im sure you moved them there for good reason.
anyway top build, and great work. look forward to more progress. Cheers Ed

Hi Wifes-ute what is the end use of your project? are you going to try and register it? is it just a straight line weapon? i have a lot more questions but would like to see what your end goal is. thanks Wards

Hi wards, this stage it will be registered on the road and take to drags and get some good practicing in to hopefully do a 10 sec pass as I've always wanted. Then I'll just keep driving it on the road and enjoy it, and still use it as my first intensions were and run greens to dump etc. After ed75mnd got me thinking I'll be adding some gussets and fish plate couple of sections just to be safe guess the chassis can never be too strong, as the missus put her foot down and said this is my last car I do so will make sure it lasts

hi again wifes-ute , not shure how the engineer is going to like that you moved the rails at the back inwards , down south that is a no no. also the position of the panard bar why so high? and so short? may be ok for a drag car but it wont go around corners ,the roll center is way too high and you will have no rear side grip , don't want to spoil all the other awsome work you have done but i think you will be dissapointed with the bad handeling this will give you . been awhile since ive done anything major to car but found some time to cut the front out to fit the intercooler and radiator, got some ideas of scott at maddat with ways to make mount brakets etc, which was great help. been doing small things aswell like cleaning up some bits and pieces too, so painfully boring.
