Well elecs checked out at mech, he reckons guage fried when link stuffed up. Said get a non stepper motor tacho- they don't work well off coils. He checked temp guage agrees its sensor.

Guage manufacturer recommends running an rpm filter when using with coil as it won't get clean stable signal, making warning light stay illuminated. Wôrked ok before fusibke link though ??

He wasn't concerned by tapping again. So Looks like new tach or work out where and what rpm filter is?

You don't need the filter unless the light stays on. You running a super high energy coil or something?

The light stays on. Running elec dizzy and corresponding coil - not stock one- so no more resistor either

well mech took another look today, he says faulty guage, coil fine, alternaotr charging right, all the loom he checked was fine (except temp guage still- he reckons is the sensor still).

so i pulled the guage and put my bog old one back in that i know works, just the light doesnt.... so im happy no more warning light lol.

as for temp guage, i got another new sensor (one shop wanted $74 generic with an adaptor fitting, and found one at another shop for $11..... new, correct for the L series and a series) n

i installed dash guage still went to H, so i pulled the dash again. havent tested yet but i replace the whole console and swapped the speedo over. 4 screws easy as.

I sat in car ingnition on for 5 mins- temp guage didnt budge. will test in the morning as too late to start and warm up car. I swapped the speedo into another console as i noticed some damage on the circuit board, and the other spare i had i know waorks as i swapped it out for this one when speedo seized.

Will report if it works.
I also added another earth from one of the backing screws on console to the cover to an earth point at end of dash frame. so that will make sure dash and console earthed correctly just in case.

That's what is wrong with mechanics. They are just guessing. They don't test parts. Most of them only know how to replace parts, until the problem goes away.

Old tacho has 4 wires, red black white green.

Red power
Black ground

I thought green was trigger
White ignition....

Could green be lights and white trigger?
Can't find tacho install instructions from 6 years ago.

Worked as green trigger and white ignition but lights didn't work
