On my 79UTE steering column surround,( not there on my 73coupe), behind the hazard switch there is a square hole (13mm x 20mm) blanked of by a square rubber fill grommet. Its definitely factory.
Using another plate underneath I was able to 'sandwich' the pedestal onto the lands of the square.
